Is there much difference between the Renault Sport Clio's?

  Countryman JCW
i own a 172 ph1 Renault Sport Clio, and i was wondering if with it being the oldest one whether it was slower? ive heard rumours going round that its actually one of the quickest?

Any info?

cheers

Ph1 known as the Ph-quick as it was one of the quicker models, across the range though there is very little difference.

Da

  Less
No difference in day to day to be honest, maybe round a track but that's about it.

ok why would it be quicker then?

ive seen them side by side and the ph1 looks a smaller car with less bulky body panels, so im guessing its lighter? does anyone know the weight differences or where i could view them?

cnt see much else makin a difference as the gear boxes and engines are the same right?

Has the cable operated throttle not got something to do with it ?

As the ph2 172 has a fly by wire throttle

Cable is where it is at. Worth at least 0.3 seconds around all tracks across the globe.

Williams is the oldest RS.

Also the most nimble and according to the Willy owners the fastest.

In reality no there's very little in it. All very good cars.

I believe that the ph1 cars are a little lighter than the ph2 models. To remedy this, the ph2 gearbox has slightly shorter gear ratios.

I guess this means that the Ph1 has a higher theoretical top speed.

Williams wasn't an RS Ali, stop trying to spread your poison! But, if you can afford to fix it, is probably the quickest.

  Alfa Romeo 145 QV
The Williams was designed and built by RenaultSport and had nothing to do with the Williams team. It took the name to mark the Williams/Renault F1 world championship that year.

I owned an original one and it was great. At absolute maximum i think it was actually a little slower than my 182 Cup, although the very strong midrange torque of the Williams made it superb for everyday driving.

I didnt realise the willy was called an RS either

The Willy wasnt called an RS. RenaultSport is the name of Renaults performance tuning arm, not a brand name to badge sporty models.

Hence RenaultSport Clio and the Clio Sport are different cars.

I'll still call the willy a Renault sport... If the bods from RS call it that then so will i!

Myth, just phase 1 owners feeling inferior and having trouble dealing with the cars dodgy cosmetics lol

As said, to the clio geeks there are many differences, but in reality they are the same car.

Round track the whole clio RS range will be within a few seconds of each other with the 197 CUP leading the pack of course! :p Followed shorlty by a ph1....

i reckon a 172 cup would take a phase 1 round track.

everyone forgets the poor old cup lol

That would depend entirely upn who is driving the car.

A professional driver would probally beat most people while driving a Micra! :)

true but if all are standard and all have the same driver.......... people will argue this to the death. so many variants condition of car driver etc etc. all in all theres fook all difference to the majority of people and for most its about what you can afford.
