I just got a mint 172 with 24k for £7500, so I reckon you could knock at least a couple hundred off it, depending on it's condition, tyres especially - if they are worn take some off, also if it's service is due. Remember, the £7995 that they want is an asking price based on their valuation. Good luck with the sale though - the 172 is a great car, loving mine so far!

well i think £4500 is ok, and i would also that sounds like an ok price for the 172, but maybe a bit less unless its in perfect condition... i just checked parkers thats all :)

  BMW Z4 3.0i
I'd say it's maybe £500 high but then sounds like they're giving you quite a generous price for your 1.2.

  M2 Competition
Yeah, u usually lose approx 500 by trading in, and another 500 by buying from a garage.
But on the plus side its zero hassle!

Does sound like a good price for your car though.

I have just picked up a 172 Cup for £5500 with 26k on the clock. While it is a year older than the one you are looking at, a £2500 premium does sound a bit much. Is this a private sale? If not, why not look to sell privately and buy privately. Its more hassle but you will get so much more for your money!

  K20 EG Hatch
there giving you a good ammount for the 1.2, as said 172 is a bit steep but then they are giving you a good amount for the 1.2.

And the 1.2 ISN'T a sport! :p

  Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique +
It sounds to me like they are offering you a pretty good price for your 1.2.
I agree with the others that the 172 is maybe a 'little' over priced and the suggested £500 knock-down would be reasonable.
I agree with Brand86 about the service, check that it has either had a recent one, or they are prepared to do one before you buy it.
I presume they are also offering warranty with the 172?
If they refuse to budge on the price, make sure it has 4 good tyres, and insist they touch up any stone chips or scratches on the paintwork and anything else you feel may need doing before agreeing to buy it, other than that, sounds ok to me.
Good luck!
