Is this the right oil?

Hi there, my oil needs topping up, I have an 04 172, is this ok to put in, not sure whats already in there, just need to top up before my 24000 mile servive due in 2000 miles. Or is there anything better out there for the 172?Cheers, Chris.

yes, but it doesn't specifically need to be elf, any brand of fully synthetic 5w40 will do

mobil 1 is the best you'll get, mine was filled with this at 36k service by renault. That's if you don't hold a grudge against Exxon for that spillage back in the day
