Right guys i need some help here.

Tossed up between getting itbs or a supercharger kit

spoke to paul at rstuning 2day and he advised around 3k for new itb kit or 4k for a bolt on supercharger kit.

in the ideal scenario i'd have ther charger hands down but can i justify the extra grand for it? not too sure.

how quick would 240bhp feel in a trophy compared to 200 with itbs?

also would need the exhaust system too which bumps up the price.

anyone got a charged 182 on here, and whats the fuel economy like on both?

Darren

First off, 3k for ITBS is expensive these days. KTEC are doing their brand new kit, with awesome ECU for just over 2K

I've driven a SC'd 172, and the answer is.....feking quick!!

If you drive sensibly, then the fuel economy probably isnt that much worse.

Darren

as said, fuel economy goes out the window with the charger.
It's a really really tough one, but I'd go ITBs

Depends why you want more power and how you plan to drive the car.

The Supercharger kit is "relatively" cheap for the power it produces, to get anywhere near it with ITBs your talking big money.

We have a ITBd track car love it.

If it was for a track car, id go the ITB route, and a LSD.

If it was for road and a bit of pub talk id go supercharged.

No point in either unless its getting proper track use imho, std car is easily fast enough for roads, cant see point in spending that on upping power and not using it properly. Its alot of money to grow the virtual pub penis a half inch.

Totally agree, i just didnt want to start the, "you dont use all the power on the road" agruement again.

Happens in most threads when you say a standard RS is fast enough for the Road.

Fuel economy with SC =W**K!

I usually return between about 8 and 20mpg depending on how it's driven. Ha, still well worth it though! But if economy is on your mind, forget both options tbh!

doesn't have to be. We worked out what k-tecs SC car was doing the other day and it's really quite acceptable

IMO i'd go for the ITB's as this is the ones i would choose given the same options as they would be going towards a track based car like Bazzon has mentioned.

Bla bla bla Awesome ECU bla bla :)

I know you don't like me making comments, but really, £1k for an ECU specific to a Clio is awesome?

Some massively capabale aftermarket ECU's available for much less than that. Not plug and play no, but can be sold/transferred onto any car/application at any point. Just daft spending that amount on an ECU which is so specific. IMO of course.

lol Whiteley, I dont mind you making comments, as long as they are constructive ;)

You have a fair point. I say it was 'awesome' just from what Andy was telling me it could do. To me ECUs are pretty new, so I was impressed, easily done :)

Bear in mind it's not as simple as comparing the price of the two different types of ECU sat on a shelf next to each other.

you've no idea at all of the capability ;)

It's also transferable to any car with a different loom, same as anything else

Just a word on power pointless for the road posts by a couple.

This might be the case if you live in a city but for us who live in the sticks surrounded by A , B, roads, 44 tonne HGV's, caravan's everywhere you go during the summer, sunday drivers etc etc having a car with serious grunt is a MASSIVE saftey advantage as in reducing time taken to danger during overtaking.

And we dont all do track days. Some of us do quarter miles and enjoy it.

Sales pitch :D!

Saw it at Autosport, did look good, but as whitleys says there are other options that do more and can be transferred.

strongly agree with that. having some grunt has got me out of trouble a few times

I would offer this advice. Think it over VERY carefully.

I was in this same dilema, and in the end I decide against both. (see Whiteley I can be sensible ;))

Im doing the suspension properly, and getting some more free power out of the car (weight ;))

The rest goes on trackdays and learning to drive better.

Best thing to do is test drive options rather than listen to the usual waffle of crap on here.

Half the haters have never even been near a charged Clio, they base their opinions on peak figures and costs

My 2c

If you build a trackcar, ITB+Sequential.
Daily driver, charged.

Also, a F4R doesn't like to rev like a *onda.

personal choice, down to a tea.

Supercharger is awesome but i have to save I love ITBS.

Totally different drive for both. Although one is a lot quicker than the other ;)

open to arguement but the drive on the road for both isn't "pointless" as some have said. It's usuable on both and I'd happily drive either everyday. ITBS are a bit more of a raw experience but the drive is brilliant and has made the car more fun as a daily runner and in no way negative.

Oh and it goes like stink too :D

I would hate to spend the money having TB's done and then 6months later think balls should have charged it!! in the same breath how long can a clio last with 250bhp :S

how long is a piece of string. if you'd be that concerned uprated internals aren't that much of a push on top
