Jacking point for 172

  1995 Mondeo Speed Machine

Wheres the best place to lift the front corner up using a trolley jack? Im reluctant to use the standard point on the sill as Im concerned about damaging it. Also, where should I position an axle stand once the car is up? I can see a couple of points under the car which I think should be suitable but it would be good to get the opinion of someone who has done this before.

Ive taken a quick under car pic if it will help anyone to explain where I should jack it up! The wheel on the far side is the offside front just to give you an idea of perspective.

Hopefully the pic is clear enough

As always, any help would be much appreciated.

Anyone still got those pics? I need to jack up my Mk2 172 to get access to the underside of the gearbox.

Thanks,

Gareth

Thanks Rick - 5 minute response :)...

Do you spread the load with wood or something? I have some old carpet taped over the saddle of my TJ (to protect the powder-coated chassis rails on my 7) - is that good enough?

Just thinking that the V in my axle stands prob isnt wide enough to straddle that section. Do you just sit it on?

I sometimes use a block of wood between the trolley jack and the car but quite a few times Ive just used the jack straight onto it. The axle stands have never been a problem for me, as long as you get them lined up directly under the beam I cant see that youll have a problem.
