so as mentioned above i cam across wet passenger side carpets recently. i did a quick search and decided i would check the drainage holes in the bulkhead to see if they were blocked. below is a little bit of a run through of what i did and my findings. i may need more suggestions on fixing this leak......
So to begin, start by removing the wiper arms, followed by the rubber trim along the top of the bulkhead and then the scuttle panel.
once these parts are removed you will notice several obstructions under the scuttle panel. namely the wiper mechanism and motor and the washer fluid bottle.
remove these also to give better access to the drainage holes.
you will be left with this arrangement:
now check the area directly below the washer bottle around the area where the wiring feeds through into the cabin. this drainage hole was clear on mine :
I then moved along to the centre of the engine bay. this drainage hole i found most difficult to reach. down the front of the bulkhead inside the engine bay, if you reachdown you will be able to find a hole in the material on the bulkhead itself. if you get your fingers through here, you will find the rubber drainage pipe with a rubber flap type fixture on the end of said pipe. open this as much as possible and rummage around to free any grime/leaves/water from the pipe.
now on the scuttle panel side of the bulkhead, the hole is hard to get to. it is situated between the bracket that hold the wiper mechanism which is seen in the centre of the scuttle panel area in my first picture, and the bulkhead itself.
i did find a few offending items around this drainage hole but there was no backed up water etc:
not sure what that cap could be off? i checked the bay and couldnt find any missing filler points etc?
then i moved on to the offside drainage hole. again you will notice some obstruction here also in the form of the pollen filter housing and heater motor:
i un-tightened the two bolts holding the heater motor in, it then slides directly upwards:
revealing the pollen filter (mine is badly soiled and mis-shapen) and a better view of the drainage hole:
now my drainage hole was again clear. however the eagle eyed among you will have noticed some excess water inside the heater motor housing itself. i think this may be where some of my condensation and wet carpet problem is coming from...... although i am unsure if this could cause my carpets to be sodden?:
I dried out the water and then replaced all items in reverse order.
so what do you forum guys think of that?
