Johnnys Trophy #456

I thought I would do a bit of an update on #456:
I bought the car 2 years ago now with 79K on clock and now has 83k. I only use the car for sprinting and hillclimbs.

When I bought it the dampers needed a refurb so I ended up buying a brand new set from West Renault at a decent price, so I then decided to change the springs and decided on Mark Fish springs. Also replace rear shocks to Sach shocks,

While this work was getting done I decided to change the engine and gearbox mounts. Birchdown done all this work.

The start of last year I got the front brakes changed to Brembo HC. DS 2500 pads and braided pipes which work great.

At the same time I got a Whiteline ARB fitted.
April last year I decided to get cambelt and defaser done, so after looking into it I decided to get Fred to do this work, Also I decided to get racing cams fitted so got Fred to fit his GT cams. And after some tuning from RS Tuning at Leeds I was happy with 187.4 bhp
Also got serviced at Freds;)
So that year I had a decent years sprinting which I got 1st in class at Liverpool Motor Club in group 1B.

So a new year has started and was deciding what I can do with the car this year. So in Febuary I decided to put a Quaiffe diff in the car coincidently a friend Colin (Shifspark) was selling his gearbox with the diff in. So I bought this and got it down to Agency for a overhall of the box..
Then the car went down to Birchdown and gearbox fitted also I put a new clutch in and replaced the clutch cable. So now its April and first couple of sprints booked and paid for.

New set of sprint wheels and AD08's fitted and ready to go and new set of rear pads and disc fitted at Birchdown again.

Then a week before my first sprint at Aintree I have a bit of a fall of my ladder and breaks my heel:( so 6 weeks of keeping foot of the floor and no work which being self employed is not good.

So after a couple of months im back walking and working but still have a limp but desperate to get back out in my car, so the car has had an another oil change and a bit of camber on the front:cool:

Ive now done 3 sprints Aintree, Wigan and Blyton Park and at each sprint ive beaten my PB's by at least 2 to 3 seconds which I put down to the diff

There are most properly had more things done but cant remember at the moment, as ive had the car for 2 years now im thinking of selling in a few more months as it is ie with the diff in and spare box extra wheels and tyres just don't know what to replace it with yet..

Thanks for reading

Looking good, mate. I'm tempted to lower my T a little and currently considering different options. I've also had a diff installed and can't wait to try it out. :) Good luck at the sprints!

Cheers bud, if I decide to keep the car I will be looking to get the front dampers unpinned and Koni rear adjustable's for next year.

Yeah, definitely worthwhile getting them unpinned if you're keeping it mate; especially given the different track characteristics for your sprints. It's nice to have the flexibility and should be adjustable as standard really.

LOL! Yeah, it can be lively on the edge - but nicely controllable on the throttle as long as you stick within the laws of physics! (Not that I'm an expert by the way!) Mind you, I guess the Whiteline rear ARB helps when it comes to keeping the rear 'playful'.

Touch wood I've only lost the backend once at Angelsey but I was trying to find a couple of seconds lol

Done another sprint today at Wigan. Got of to a great start and took 2.5 sec's of my PB in the first 2 practice run's well happy. The car was running great and so confident to take another 2 sec's off.
My first timed run I made a mistake so down on my time gutted, Then rained the rest of the afternoon......
But made a decision to keep the car for another year so will be looking to get dampers unpinned and some revalved rear Koni adjustables from Mark Fish..

Car looks great John, is that you at Curborough with the Scooby lads? Don't sell it you'll only regret it, probably one of the best 1B cars around, quick and with comfort for the long drives to events, you did my head in at Blyton showing off with your aircon while I sweated through my seat.
;)
