just bought 02 172 - need advice

I am collecting a 172 (salvage fully repaired) with no service history, one key, 32k, driver seat shoulder airbag deployed not replaced, oil looked messy. Airbag and service lights showing on dash. Does this mean that none of the airbags will deploy, serivce light - does this mean it needs the 36k service?

Please can someone advise me what work needs doing and recommend a (cheap!) renault specialist in Wolverhampton/West of Bham area.

cheers

I'd go for the 32k service just for piece of mind to be honest, however maybe get a cheaper mech to give it once over since you might get a huge list of whats up with it when the Renault monkeys get their hands on it...

Oil looked messy?

Hi
Firstly, have you done a full HPI check on the car to check it's history ?
From what you've said, that's the first thing I'd do, £40 well spent imho

Well for starters the service light is on as the airbag has blown out and will have to be reset are reno, it will also need a new airbag computer IIRC.

Speak to MATT BLACK @ specialist renault breakers mate....

Can i ask how much you paid for the car??

ouch.

1st thing is not to rush whatsoever as many ppl will try to rip you off. I cant help with the midlands area as im south east.

just take your time getting hold of the better known garages.

the service light will mean its service is due yes

I'm not digging you mate but the service light only comes on to highlight theres a problem somewhere within the car, in this case its the airbag.

Yep, the SERV light does not mean it's due for a service. Just highlighting a fault as Alan said. Think Yozzasport and Cliospares (new name now, 24/7 spares or something) are around your area.

if the seat airbag gone off new seat frame needed air bag and air bag computer are the pretensioners ok? your looking at £1000 for that alone would have a 36k done as car been stood i expect etc

Phone Matt on 01254386661 for the parts but hes up in accrington.

Airbag computer seat rear and airbag need replacing you can always just have the airbag computer reset but I'm not 100% sure how reliable this is after all Renault say it once used to set an airbag off should be thrown away, sow the seat up and stick resisters in the abribag but wonce the airba goes off you should replace the rear off the seats as per the repair manual.

Serv light means there a problem most likly the airbag having gone off. However have u checked the car runs right and hasn't got a bent chassic?
