Hello everyone new to the club, my name is gavin from pontypool in south wales. Bought a black 172 last sat with a full renault service history 82k on the clock for £1600. Tell me if this seems like a very good price as it seems to be looking about. But theres a but, bought from a private 18 year old seller who bought the car in august 2010 but could'nt afford insurance. He told me he drove the car for a short while and there was a loud knocking from the engine, took it to a garage and he said the cambelt was on its way out hence changed it for the first time in the cars life which i have a receipt for (10 years old and 82k??? can this be?) also no mention of changing the AUX belt and tensioners?
Anyway gets better took it around to my mates garage for a check up as i felt it was pulling to the right when braking. Got it on the ramps and the ball joint was hanging out of its socket, inner cv boot split and dry as , driveshaft gatter come loose with the bootom of the engine covered in oil, and not just gearbox oil, also engine oil from a leak on the top. I really what to keep the car but something is telling me to patch up and sell.
