Just bought a HP Netserver LC2000r

  R35 GTR
Could anyone point me in the right direction please? I have never used a server before and never used windows server edition thingy program.

I basically bought it so that I could set up a secure storage for my most important documents.

It currently has two 10GB and two 40GB i think they are set up as raid 5.

I just need some absolute noob advice on setting it up so I can browse to it with my laptop.

Also how much would it be worth, it's got 1GB of ram and a single 933MHz PIII processor.lol.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
You've got no hope if you're a noob. And no, two 10Gb and two 40Gb won't (or shouldn't!) be set up as raid 5. If they are, you've lost 60Gb of storage as to prepare them they'd all have to be the same size.

What you have asked I would not even attempt to explain to you on a forum post. Its just not possible.

From the way you have worded things I can tell your a total n00b and while thats nothing to be ashamed of (we all started somewhere) you really should have learnt more before delving into the world of server/raid/encryption etc.

well I knew this would happen.lol.

Yes i am a noob, but where do i start?

It's cost me bugger all. The dat drive that is has is worth more than i paid. Just thought I could set up secure storage on my network.

Nope.

Even with DAT drives etc I could get a Dell 1650 with both power supplies and both 1.4Ghz Xeons and 2Gb memory for £100 (3x36Gb disks and RAID controller) and a 1750 with 2.4Ghz Hyperthreading Xeons for £200...

  RRS, 172, ST3, VTS
google it, read through a load of tutorials and learn yourself, thats how i learnt. its not rocket science, but its hard enough, yall get there in the end. first of all get windows server installed and start arsing about with it.

No, first of all get to grips with the RAID cos you'll need that set up before you stick an OS on it...

i think they are PIII though not Xeon.........

1.4GHz Xeon:

(But yea.. the Dell 1650 looks like a PIII :))

I can confirm to you both, of the 30 1650s we've got there's only one PIII in that lot, the rest are the later 1.4Ghz Xeons.

They're still both fairly pathetic, but they're good for our Citrix environment as they're all the same spec and there's lots of them. However they're all going for new DL140s, hence why I can get them for pennies...

  A blue one.
People do the strangest things....

..I once built my own linux distribution which contained only busybox, openssl and freeradius because I just wanted to see how minimal I could make an "appliance" that would do EAP/TLS for WPA authentication!
