Very strange .
Like ya say , better off checkin the dipstick rather than goin off the oil level lights . If you've left half a litre in the can you've only put in 4.5 litres , but it should still show 000_ _ at least . Might need another 250mls ??

Fcuking cars!!! Will pop out and have a look if it stops p1ssing down, car's on bit of a hill though so wont be accurate anyway. My arm looks like it's had a Rotweiler hanging off of it and the chuffing things still c0cked up!! Surely has to be me knocking a sensor, even if I only put 4L in it should be ok??

Nah manual clearly states 4.75 litres.
Mike, when you turn your ignition and its says ---OIL--- or OIL OK, press the trip computer reset and you should see a display with ------ (empty)upto 000000 (full) the 0's depict how full your level is.
Can't think what else you could have dont wrong though mate, i just changed mine 250 miles ago so i know theres not too much you can go wrong with. You did put the correct oil gauge in 0-40/5-40w?

Stick with 4.75 mate, and yes you can flood the pistons and end up burning oil with leaves residues, but even a 1/2 inch above the MAX is ok as they do build in a safety buffer.
Park oyur car someplace flatter and check the computer level, the dipstick is a b**ch to read even in good light due to dodgy angle of dip and clean oil.

if the manual says 4.75 then it may be 4.75
just double check that the 4.75 figure is for the 2.0 engine with a filter change too as they absorb some of the oil out the sump. my data cd states a 1.2 takes 4.8 litres with filter change - so make sure your not confusing the two?
putting a little bit too much oil in, it will just burn it off, but put too much in and it could cause problems..
just remember back to when ya was a kid on holiday trying to run through a swimming pool and remember how difficult it is.
thats what your engine would have to put up with!
remember to park your car on as level ground as possible..
my driveway gives me a different reading to when its parked outside on the road..

It's 4.75L for the 2.0 model, and something like 4.5L for a 1.2.
Also make sure you give the oil a good 10 minutes to reach its correct level, and make sure the engine is cold when your doing an accurate reading.
Not sure what could be wrong though mate, if you checked its not leaking underneath (pretty sure you'd notice 4litres of oil) then its in the engine, therefore the problem lies with the sensor. Unless of course you just put 4 litres of oil into the washer jet refill
Run the car for a couple of minutes after you testing it, and let it idle. Put your bonnet up and make sure if doesn't sound tappety (knocking). Then try gentley revving it (2k revs) and check for unusual noise. If it idles ok then its good to drive, but check it in the morning to be sure.
You could also try disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU, leave it unwired for 10 minutes and wire it back up, turn your ignition and you'll hear the ECU doing checks before you drive off. Make SURE you know your radio code though if your disconnecting battery - its printed inside the service manual (4 digit code).
