Just did a full oil change

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Went to halfrauds for the stuff.....

was only able to get 10/40 semi synthetic - the card things said it was correct for the 172 ?? got a oil filter too.

also got Automatic gear box oil.

For people who are worried about doing this yourself, its quite an easy job, very fiddly but straight forward !!

was a pain to get to the oil filter off, my dad left the strap tool at work so i managed to get it off with a G clamp lol

Made a little tube to do the gear box oil and it all went ok :)

running nice and smooth now.

will do another oil change soon to the full synthetic stuff !!

how much gear box oil do u put in, and is the drain plug that plug under the engine that looks like u can undo it by hand ?

i belive the correct level for the gear box oil is 3.4L however just fill it up till it starts draining.... undo the bleed 8mm square drain plug underneath to drain, refit the plug. you need a sump key !! mine was not that tight but still needed the key !!

to the left on the side of the box is a black plastic wing nut kind of shape undo that and thats where you fill it till it drains out

hmmmm, not heard that one?

i would only put in what renault spec, as we all know how fragile these gearboxes are

yea true story about that one, but whenever i go into renault now they say "sorry sir this is classed as wear and tear" not under yout extra 2 year warenty we put a gun to your head to make you sign for !!!

Just heard a few comments that fully synthetic automatic gear box oil works wonders so i thought id give it a try :)

just took it out and it seems to be running smooth, not fallen off yet lol

drain plug is identical to the sump plug, its on the bottom of the gear box

refil is a plastic screw cap (black normally, but some are white) its on the front face of the gearbox under the airbox (its a horizontal plug))
