Just had a bump... Let's now play a game

As the title says,

ive just taken a corner at my normal speed (35 ish on a 40 road) the corner is fairly sharp and was wet. Now unfortunatly the back end went light and swung out I managed to get it back in but in the process my front end decided to follow what the back end was doing so the wheel hit the kurb on my drivers side and has cracked the alloy (no doubt bent it) and also now the wheel on the drivers side points out a good 1 - 2 inches when the passenger wheel is straight. In turn the air bags deployed also. So in all what have a broke and bent behind the drivers wheel and how much for parts do you reckon?

Nick

I do only have £30 a piece bargain tyres on I guess really couldnt afford anything else at the time (nor can I afford repairs really lol)

So if the parts are sourced from a scrap yard my mechanic knows the owner and forever gets stupidly big discounts from?

Buy some decent tyres while you're there. If you had some in the first place you probably wouldn't be in this mess.

Sounds like exactly what happened to me in my CRX years ago... cost me £900 to put right, and tbh, it never was 'right' again. Then I sold it for £850! :dead: depending on how much your car is worth, break it imo.

Get it checked over by a maindealer their tell you what you need and give you a price and if its too much go to your mate with the list off parts and get it done that way.

Been looking air bag 20 a piece and looked this morning at it in the light it appears a bolt has sheared from the bottom? So we are going to stick a bolt in the hole and see then the alloy has taken most of the force

Wishbone will probably be bent too, and possibly the subframe as well depending on how hard you hit it. You will also need seat belt pre-tensioners as they will have gone off when the airbags went off.

Damn how necessary is a seatbelt pretensioner really? I didnt feel my seat belt tighten that im aware. Also how easy are they to fit? Or am I best just passing it my mechanic and let him go for it.

That corner has just killed your car. It'll never be 100% without spending a fortune, happy Christmas. Just be happy you didn't hit anyone else....

Unfortunately I agree with ohara :( still, could be worse, at least you don't live in Albert Square.

Worst "Dab of Oppo" thread of 2011

I disagree, as this is probably the only "dab of oppo" thread where OP didn't crash due to oil/diesel/puppies/etc.

OT: Entirely depends. You really need to get it checked out properly to know exactly what is needed.

I had a very similar sounding & "minor" looking incident (and yes it "just" looked like a bent wishbone causing 2 inches of toe out...) turned out to bend track rods, track rod end, steering arm, sterring rack, subframe, wishbones, wheels, hub carriers + airbag, airbag computer, reset crash data etc etc. Totalled £5000 in damage using new renault parts, £1500 in pattern parts not inc. sorting airbag from a local garage and £500 in parts using cliospares.

My point: get it checked properly. No point in guessing. For all the guessing & estimating there's a genuine danger you take it all off and find lots more (chassis?!?!?!) is bent.

Got the track rod today will fit it and take it easy to my mechanics where he can give it a full once over It looks easy enough to fit if not looks like my cars being broken for parts and I'm not driving anymore.

No car is nO job no job is no money no money is no car and so on vicious circle

Thanks for that Daniel doesn't help it happened around christmas I'm just hoping its just the inner tie rod thats bent

Here's a pic I took before of it

get your mechanic to give it a PROPER look over, if he starts saying a long list of items then think of scrapping/selling the car ( if its only a cheap non sport or something).

theres no point in you finding and fixing one thing at a time, you might spend a fortune then find it its fucked and you might as well of sold it. get a full list of parts you need so you can work out the cost, then weigh up wether its worth keeping or not

^ WTF?

Get the tie rod changed and get it looked at, it may not be as damaged as it looks and if not get it fixed up!

Was it side airbag? New seat if so really. Did something similar when I was younger. Renault charged 1500quid iirc. Mine was a 180 degree curb slapper though and it twisted the chassis.

  Ph1 track 172
i have an airbag ecu and side impact sensors for sale if you need them never been in a crash either (duh)
and if its a ph1 i also have both the front airbags!

also, rear seats will not have pretensioners, so youre alrigt there!!
providing your chassis is straight, the worst youll need is
subframe
wishbone
arb
track rod
rod end
ball joint
shaft
hub
shock,
you could pick all of this up from a scrappie for £250 probs

but its more likely youll just need
rod
rodend
ball joint

as long as youre handy with a spanner shouldnt be too of a hard fix!

Struggler can you price me on both airbags please via pm? That would be a massive help! Rear seats aren't an issue now thank god. I hit the curb about 30mph if not a bit slower so the alloy being soft I think has taken the brunt I the force (see below)

Been trying to do the track rod today managed to get te end off behind the brake disk but cannot shift the boot for the life of me :/ I dint have ramps either just a diamond jack that comes with the car and axel stands

How do I remove the rubber boot on the inner tie rod I've managed to disconnect the ball joint at the hub but that boot is annoying me now lol the clip is facing the bulkhead and isn't really accessible?
