key only goes half way into barrel

So this is for a friend in need..

He owns a clio and went to drive it how ever the key will only go half way into the barrel and then gets blocked by something. Steering lock is off.

Any ideas?

Knackered barrel seems to be the most likely cause, no?

Have you tried tapping it to get it all the way in?

Yea he tried banging it in, no spare key either. I guess barrel is just fucked and he will need to replace it

Yep, new barrel is the most likely fix for this but I *believe* you can strip the tumbler so it may just need a strip, lube and clean.
