Am I right in thinking this is the steps you should go through when cleaning your car;

Pre-wash

Hand wash

Clay

Pre-wax

Polish (don't own machine polisher)

Glazes

Wax

Detail spray

And would you clean the wheels before starting the shell?

Thanks

Yes on all, just don't apply the detailer spray directly after waxing but use it to maintain.

If only I did that well in my GCSE's lol would you rinse or foam wash before using the detailer spray and if I was to do a quick wash which steps would be ok to skip ? Polishing and glazing? Thanks

I hope that i get this right (being a foreigner) but:

1. Rinse/wash before detail spray: yes! you should apply the detailer spray to a clean surface, if there is still dirt on the car you will scratch the paint.
2. Quick wash: You will probably do this every week, or once every 14 days. Just wash the car with you washmitt, 2 buckets and shampoo. Then dry the car with a drying towel, and spray on the detailer spray. Buff off with a good quality microfiber towel. This adds +-2 weeks of protection, gives a boost to your wax layer and leaves a nice "freshly waxed look".

3. Polish: You do this to remove swirls, so probably every 6 months but depends on how much you are into the whole detailing stuff.
4. Glaze: You apply the glaze before the wax, so do this everytime you wax (depending on the wax every 2-4 months).

Thanks so if I do a full detail every 6months wax every quarter and quick clean every 2weeks it will be ok. Could you recommend me some detail spray and some pre-wax most I see don't actually say they remove wax and other contaminants

Yes you are correct.

I have just used ClearKote Quik Shine on my Clio (like 3 mins ago) with -2 celcius outside and it worked perfect and was easy to apply. Also used it with 32 celcius, so its a all year round product and usually gives me around 2 weeks of protection. (pics later btw). One bottle gives me around 10-12 time apply.

As for a pre-wax cleaner a lot of people use Dodo Juice Lime Prime (lite). I use ClearKote Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze though. This cleans, slightly polishes and has a little ammount of wax in it. Top it with a second, better protecting wax. I like the ClearKote products because they are easy to apply and work all year round, also in full sunlight in summer and give good value for money. A bit down to personal prefference again.
