Knocking at front when shaking wheel + humming noise

It's hard to tell where it's coming from but I can hear a slight humming noise that sounds like a bearing.. could be front or rear but definately on the near side.

Also when stationary if I shake the steering wheel there's a knocking/clonk coming from the front somewhere - could this be linked? Doesn't seem to do it once moving but the humming gets louder as I get faster.
