Knocking Noise - Drivers side Rear (172 cup)

  A4 Avant & A3
My car has seemed to develop a knocking noise coming from the back.
It happens when i go over speed bumps (slowly i might add) and bumps in the road. It only seems to be on the drivers side.

Anyone experienced this? or know of any common probs that might cause this.
Just thought i'd check on here first, before i go jacking it car up tomorrow to check shocks & exhaust. & anything else i find underneath.

Cheers

Check the damper isn't leaking, mine started doing this, and it had pissed all its fluid out. Not too dear for a replacement, around £45

i've just had a quick look (without taking the wheel off) and the damper on the side with the noise looks a bit wet/oily & the other side it dry as a bone! .. god damn

The cars only done 19.5k! (and the warranty ran out 3 months ago!)
Do you need to replace both sides? or can you do just the damaged one?

Both... sh*t, if it ain't one thing it's another!
Just doen a little search on here & it seems like they are easy to change.
Just could do without the hassle :-(

Probably better to replace both, but i didn't. Not sure if they are different, i know the springs are. I just gave my mate the reg of me car (works at renault)

  A slow one :-(
Cost me 150 incl VAT to get mine done by a renault garage at the weekend! Took it in and asked to have it booked in to get it sorted... they just took the keys off me and said they'd to it there and then!

Ye, just do it yourself.. it really is a piss easy job..

To change both shocks.. 10-15 min tops. Make sure the rear springs are still seated properly though after you have attached the new shocks and are lowering the car back down.

They did both of my shocks... I am a pretty much useless when it comes to anything mechanical so I wasn't bothered at paying for the labour charge. Especially as I walked into the garage at 10am on a Saturday morning and had the car delivered back to my front door for noon!

They are doing a good job at wanting me to keep to Renaults...

fair play, doesn't sound too bad then if you had both the shocks changed. (especially if they are around £50 each)

Although i was secretly wishing you said they only changed the leaking side :-( damn!!

What a coincedence, mines developed this issue on the drivers side. It sounded like a knackered shock.

That 2 rear springs and a rear shock now. FFS

Mine had driver's side leaking rear shock. Was £38 each IIRC for the dampers from Cliospares (Genuine Brand New Dampers), then got a mate to fit them.

Cliospares in based on outskirts of Wolverhampton, http://www.fourashesrenault.co.uk/ they get them from Renault with a discount, but once ordered it takes up to 48 hours for them to receive them.

Worth a try price wise tho'
