knocking on my 172

iv gotta a knock on my 172, but its only wen im accelerating, sounds a bit like traction control, but my car doesnt have it, any ideas

Axle tramp by the sounds if its in first etc there not much you can do its just the spinning of the wheels which makes then just then regrip etc.

Check the wheel nuts though.

When i rev it a bit and get a wheelspin in first , there's a pretty loud knocking noise, scary sound really !

I was thinking the worse of it; but after reading this, it is'nt something to worry about at all ??

no, it's only happening when getting wheelspin in first gear. Not when turning either

It sounds like what Edde's described . Have'nt had this on any other car i've owned though. It does'nt sound healthy at all, scared the s**t out of me

^^^ Possibley your strut top mounts. Is it only at slow speed and maybe going over bumps?

I had this and got it fixed no probs.

Oh yeah, sorry lol. Was a bit tired. I think you have to grind down the top of the strut top mounts. Im sure its been covered on here many times.

Wierd... seen that thread a million times and completey forgot. Might be a bit of a fag find metal washers that size though unless specially made.

a fair few peeps on the thread have made them and sold them on, i bought some a 2 quid inc postage off one of the geezers in the thread

it took 2mins to fit the washers and the problem was solved

i would recommend doing this instead of grinding away at the strut tops

Had the same problem with knocking when wheelspining in first, fitted a k-tec (powerflex) dog bone mount and all is cured.

Hmm, thats funny. I have already fitted the two washers on the top mounts (followed Fred's guide in the linket thread) last week. But my car still, I will not say knocks, but squeaks when I turn the wheel and driving very slow on a bumpy road. And it is only at slow speeds.
The front ARB mounts and the two carrying arm mounts have all been greased with WD40.

I also have a knocking but its when i lift off, sounds like it is coming from behind me, might sound weird but i find i can hear it more in 2nd and 3rd, mines an 06 182 so naturally i didn't expect such problems, any ideas

You could also check out the top off side engine mount, if the rubber is not equal distance inside the square metal surround this too can cause knocking on acceleration and de acceleration, i had this happen on mine.
