Ktec 'Not So Stealth' System...

  172 Cup
I had the same issue with mine, was really boomy on motorways and just made me feel like a chav pulling away from traffic lights etc. Picked up a silenced centre section on here for £80 and its made a huge difference, almost no boom on the motorways and almost standard sounding when pulling off. You sure you have the silencer in the middle?

Yeah course. Maybe the baffles have come out?
Does anyone live near me who has a quiet aftermarket exhaust and is over the age of 21 so I can compare?

And boom its just something a mechanic with no knowledge of fluid dynamics has thrown together and probably nowhere near optimum.

This is my main argument against powerflow systems. IF you had a custom car that needed a custom exhaust system, for example my p100 had nothing off the shelf to fit it with the engine, rear suspension etc so that was almost an only option, for most other cars however.
Some of the guys turn out some good stuff, ive seen some really nice systems in the flesh, but ive also seen some pretty dire stuff, on the internet i will add, that claimed to have come out of their places.

I really dont think the ktec system with the centre is that loud, certainly not to justify what your claiming. So either you have seriously sensitive hearing or something is wrong with the exhaust.
Is it blowing at a join, really old or cracked anywhere?

It doesn't exist......

i have a quiet stealth ktec thats no different to normal , and am over 21 ..........

surrey based but depending where you are could meet at something like clacket services if your really desperate to hear one .

in fact my volvo is the only car we have that does not have a stainless exhaust fitted ....... V8 with miltek being my fave (and also not loud in the car at all .)

why do they have to be over 21? lol

Been there and done it (twice) lol

I bought one when they first came out, binned it after a fortnight. Then I bought a cup with one fitted. Again f**ked it off after buying a nice new o.e system. Honestly mate it'll be the best thing you'll do. Nothing aftermarket gets near to o.e sound levels.

actually ran my standard system decatted. Adds a bit of rasp!

I seem to remember the original stealth was improved upon a short while after, maybe after the initial batch was sold a good few years ago? Your experience was probably from the 1st batch? Just a thought.

Good thread for me, I am having the same issue, bought a k-tec stealth with center section (mk2 to be exact) in May and find it loud. I dont have a decat.
I have taken it apart 2 times, checked for leaks, replaced the clips with stronger ones (from iveco daily, thats the same diameter and looks better too).
Its good for lazy driving with windows down, or for trashing around in twisty turns, but really NOT to driving on longer journeys at 60-90, I found it loud. So drooning inside the car, makes me mad if I have to drive 300 miles.
I never had a stock exhaust (bought my 172 2nd hand), had a Bastuck fitted on....and it was less droning but still noisy, so bought the k-tec stealth to have less noise :banghead:.

So either my cat is brokedn (how do I know it?), or it is simple not as a perfect product as it looks like.

I have found out that the noise is really nice at 4500rpm+ but, thats a bit too much speed vise on 5th :)

I will keep an eye on this thread.

Question added: Does it drone due to the bigger diameter and less pressure in the tube on lower revs???

Just been out for a drive and my head was actually hurting after. Dont know if its just me or what now.
Its loud, just dont know if alot of you find that sort of noise acceptable.
And on the overrun its awful.
When i got hope looked under and the backbox bracket is leaning in the metal and not the rubber. so that is one thing..

Well you're experiencing the issue I have with them. I think most on here who say they aren't loud are under 25..... or have hearing issues brought about by the exhaust ;)

I did indeed get one of the first MK2 stealth's back in the day. The second stealth I had the mis pleasure with was in 2009, bought about a month before I purchased the car. They are still the same today, loud boomy and ruin the experience.

Last time i'll say this............. O.E system will transform the car.

Just ordered both parts. £233 delivered. Should be able to sell the ktec for that so will just have to pay for fitting.
