KW V1, B14's, Spax RSX or Konigsports?

So next friday ill be ordering some coilovers and im unsure what to go for. I'm currently running some lovely Apex springs so even the standard springs would be an upgrade but obviously I want something slightly better :) Im torn between the four different sets in the title but very tempted to go with the Konigsports purely as I can adjust the dampening and of course they run Koni shocks which everyone knows are great. However im now very tempted with the KW V1's, but having not been in a car running them I don't know how stiff they are for everyday use and how low they can go? Im not not gunna be running them stupid low but would like the widest choice of height available to me and I defiantly don't want my car to sit any higher than it current does. The RSX's are tempting but as they are a fairly new product out im unsure if I wanna go with them and again im unsure how low you can go with them.

Thoughts?

I had Bombers old Konigsports on my PH1 and they were absolutely superb.

Miles ahead of the Gaz I had on before that.

I've no experience with the rest of them, but my Konigsports were brilliant.

Tbh, all of the ones you're considering are highly acclaimed. Its just down to personal preference really.

KW V1's are the basic ones though.

Cheers guys :) Think it will probably be the Konigsports then which is what I was originally going with anyway :S

Can anyone confirm the FK part code I need? Cheapest ive found so far is £607 + postage. The layout of the Europerformance site is shocking and making it fairly hard to confirm the ones I need, thought it was FKKKRT40, but now looks to maybe be FKKKRT42?:

Just be grateful you have more choice than cup packed clios ;) is it the b14s that haven't had great rep lately?

There is an issue with the bearings, I've known people with sets that last for years but mine developed it. Have about 7k on them...on the whole though they feel amazing, awesome bits of kit. All shocks fail, remember that. I had a Spax kit on my Corrado which started leaking and were only a few months old.

I went for the B14's and have to say they are very good dampening is much better and comfier than I thought it would be.

Venom sell the Konigsport too and there part number is "FK Code:FKKKRT42" there priced slighty higher tho at £652 (not sure on p&p)

I'm in the same boat as you mate, between the Spax or FK. I'v read bad things lately about the B14 and the KW didn't really enter my head. Danny at 519 sell the Spax with 25% off at the moment to taking them down to £599 for the standard kit, or 674 for the track day kit. DannyR and Lewis Taylor both ran the FK's and said there good, but dmallet runs the track day spax and he says there good:/

To me, spax/shmax

They were always a bit 'meh' back in the day, and they've had more comebacks than Elvis. German engineering > knocked up in a shed in England

Depends what you are after really. Most of the brands you list are fixed damping, but I think the Spax are adjustable? If they are a similar price if be tempted by them. Fixed damping has its limitations, though I don't know what you plan to do with them so it might never be an issue. KW and Bilstein both have a good name.

Mostly road driving with the odd trackday, ill be going to Snet in Aug for my first so trying to get the car ready for that so I can get the most out of the evening session.

Konigsport aren't fixed dampening that's the highsports, SPAX are also the same with adjustable dampening.
I think Danny at 519 is only doing 25% off until end of this month so we both need to hurry up and
make up our mind:)

TBH i wasn't to happy with my FK's, the rear springs had very little movement in them, they bottomed out if i had any weight in the rear of the car, they don't seem to handle much better than my new 182 on cup shocks and Eiback springs IMO preferred my Bilsteins. I'll be going for KW V2's or AST's on the 182.

I also found the dampening wasn't very accurate to adjust, would prefer a shock with clicks as appose to smooth turn round, easier to determine the same setup for all corners.

Hate my B14's - really hate them
Too soft for track use, can't adjust the damping and after only 6k the bearings are shot and it's gonna cost £200 to get them repaired
For £860 suspension - they're s**te

Spax next for me unless I find the money for KW V2's or AST's

I will say I was surprised how much roll the B14's allowed, keeps a bit of the fun there though.

Tbh if the spax kit was at the price it is now I probably would have gone for them.

After my trip to the ring this is my next purchase. A little off topic i guess but performance wise are coilovers and better than fixed platform dampers? To me fixed platform look much better value for money as you can get more bang for your buck I'm terms of damping rate adjustments etc. the only benefit I see from coilovers is possible weight benefits and ride hight adjustability.

I'm running the B14's and up to now love them, but you need to look at what your using them for, they need to be fit for purpose, so I would say B14's are not for an out and out track car tbh, Dan@519 did say to me that the B14's have issues but I went for them anyway as I've always used Bilsstein on all my cars from Escorts to the Pug.
I use the car for sprint/hillclimbs and the odd track day but need to drive to events, I may give the Spax a go when these are done but would like to see how they do after a few more reviews.

Regards Russ....

I've just fitted B14's and they're awesome, perfect damping, great on the road, remember they were tested and developed on the Ring which isn't a perfectly smooth circuit!! Good enough for the Ring, good enough for me!!

I've just ordered the spax for my cup packed 182. If they're s**t they'll be getting taken off and sold.

I've had konigsports and they're absolutely shocking on the road.

Bilsteins are decent but mine ended up needing a refurb 500 miles after I bought them from lewis taylor, they were fine when I got them but didnt last long.

Vmaxx - Actually not that bad at all for the money they cost.

Gaz- Again not that bad when you play around with the damping on them.

Kw - Never tried but would've been my number 1 choice for my 172 cup had I kept it.

So basically if its a track car - AST, if its a road car KW V2's

just dont slam it to much.. as said to you before when i was in Dans car it was more comfortable than the cup mate which i was quite surprised about

Mine failed so they must be s**t. You're so northern Phil lol.

LOL mine failed, yours failed, chris's failed, 4 more people I've spoken to have failed and Dan say's it's a common fault

They're the worst mod I've fitted to my car - with how much it's costing to get them refurbed and how little they're worth second hand mine may very well be going in t'bin ;)

What was actually wrong with the Konigsports for the road? I would obviously sofen them up for road use and stiffen them up slightly for track. Im not spending 1k on coilovers for a car worth 2-2.5k lol.

Of your choices i would go for the KonigSports, have driven both Ollie & Nicks cars on them and have been very impressed.

Rather amusingly, the KW V2's that everyone bums reputedly use Koni adjustables as well ... Another choice would be H&R - ive been very impressed with mine, very similar to the Sachs in term of cornering, but with a far better ride quality.

Are these dampening adjustable? Kamracing site doesnt say either way but I would assume not. They are however pushing the budget to the max as they are £300 more than the Konigsports.
