Laptop battery help

I think my laptops battery is fudged and to make matters worse its only a cheapo make (E-System 3115).

What it started doing was charge for 5 mins then come off charging on its own.
then the 5 mins gradually came down to 5 seconds (so it would charge, stop charging then charge again) then i pulled out the charger and let it run flat, plugged the charger back in and now its not taking any charge at all.

is there anyway to check its deffo the battery and not a dodgy charger - battery connection in the laptop?

new laptop time me thinks as parts for these laptops are rare as rockinghorse crap

Does the light on the charger come on? As in the power pack? If that fails it could be that which faulty.

Also you can try this: Take battery out for two hour, then try again, this sometimes works.

my actual charger hasn't got any lights or anything on it its just a cable

when it charges a light normally comes on the laptop (an orange one) but thats not coming on....

took the battery out and will try again tonight though.

Does the laptop work when connected to the mains but minus the battery? If so you know the charger is working.

Buy a new battery off ebay, thats what I did for mine which was a 3115 iirc! cost me £20

nope doesn't switch on... but i dont think it ever did? il try it with my bros laptop as his is the same. but i know the charger is working as it charges my bros

Then it's your charger or worse it could be then pin when you plug the charger in on your laptop which usually means a new motherboard for such a minor thing.

Hopefully it's just the battery, if its a big make you may be able to source one from the manufacturer.

Shame as this seems a minor thing, gap in the market, start a business specialising in the sale of laptop batteries :|

bump im about to invest in a macbook anyway but would like to get this fixed

If its not turning on without the battery and with the charger plugged in, then as said above it'll be ac adapter or motherboard, does the connection going into the laptop feel loose?

If it does then its most likely the pin, which will be a new motherboard, you can bodge them if you can use a soldering iron to re solder it. Not likely to last very long though mate.. If its not loose, does the charger start to get warm? If not then it might just be the charger, which you should be able to get a generic one from maplins, they'll let you test it first i believe so you'll know before you buy it.

If it doesnt get warm and the charger pin isn't loose then its most likely to be the motherboard, but i'd try a new charger first. Hope that helps

il take it to pieces later and see whats going on. iv tried a number of charges and its not turning on...

are people posotive the laptop should function without the battery in, just the charger? iv never tried doing it before?

Is there anyway to get all my stuff off the hard drive as all my uni work etc is on there aswell

Yeh pretty fucked if its not working with any other chargers either, they are the correct voltage, etc aren't they? should definately work with just the charger though.

You can can get a hard drive caddy so it'll work as an external hard drive and you should be able to get all your work of it that way.

Hmm, I believe it won't function without battery. Must depend on laptop manufacturer then I guess.

It will work without a battery, and i know of no recent laptop that doesnt tbh.

Most laptops function on mains power with the battery disconnected, as mentioned.

Plugged the power into the laptop and wiggle the jack-plug. Does the charging light on the laptop flash?
