Random bars have appeard on the Mrs laptop tonight, as the picture below shows. Dont really know why its happend, its never been dropped etc. The 2nd picture is me bending the screen and it seem to go back to normal, until i let go.

Ive taken the fascia off, disconnected the screen etc but its still the same. Is it new screen time or something else?

Its not letting me embed the pics for some reason, so click the links.

Have you checked the cable on the rear of the screen and the connector on the motherboard?

Ribbon cable to the back of the monitor or GFX Card is having a b**ch fit.

It's either the drivers or you've bought a DV series HP Laptop with the nVidia graphics chip.

HAd one like this recently and it needed a replacement screen.

At first thought it was the ribbon cable as it was doing similar symptoms to yours, but it turned out to be one of the flex ribbon cables on the actual screen itself was duff. £40 for a new screen

Looking at the pattern I'd say it was the display wiring, sometimes the cable can rub and fray in the hinges on poor designs.

Tried an external monitor ?

Its a Advent quantum, im sure its the screen that needs replacing as i have now put 2 lumps of blue tack on the ribbon for the screen. It now doesnt flicker unless you start pressing the screen or giving it a wobble. Might just put it on ebay for £50.

Its a 1gb with a 250gb harddrive if anyone wants it.
