hi just been to have my aircon system re gassed at kwick fit and been told its got a leak . anyone recomend some where that does a leak test or know how i can do it myself . quiet competent at mechanics but never tackled aircon before , any help greatly appreciated .
Kwik-fit should do you a leak test then you can purchase the parts from someone breaking another 172. I would get some new O-rings from renault though.
Kwik s**t are paid to make as much money as possible. Take it to a local place to you who specialise in air con...they will test it and let you know either way...dont tell them it has a leak, see what their compression tests show.
Ps. Didnt Kwik s**t provide you a report of what they felt that the problem could be?
Kwik-Fit are making a big push with AC Don... They're rather competitive to. Our local one is very good and I send all of my leak tests and re-gasses to them.

When I got the 182, I contacted the local one to get an idea of price...they said that it needed cleaning, testing, then doing...and would be about £150...and this was over the phone! I asked how they could diagnose something that they hadn't seen...and he said that is what they would pretty much be charging...so I politely declined. I prefer local companies who need to do a good job to keep themselves in business, rather than a big outfit who couldn't care less about a customer.
Halfords sell an equivalent to that one linked to above, for about the same price - I think a lot of motor factors sell them too.
However, you'd still need a leak test and round here it's ~£60 for that + refill. They drain the old coolant out then refill with fresh, IIRC when they drain it they effectively expose any leak problems with seals, etc.
update............. had a leak test at halfords auto centre in worksop . didnt charge me a penny ,,, they said the condenser is leaking . and that supplied fitted and gassed up will cost £358 .. whats that price sound like , never had one done before . all my other cars have been fine . anyone local do it cheaper . willing to travel within reason
best to buy a second hand one from cliospares and fit myself ?????????????????????? any seals needed i have loads of different sized o rings anyway cheers for any info
just took grille off and looks like i need a new pipe to . so condensor amd pipe that goes to the drier (round tube ) cos thats split to . looks like when everthing is undone it will just drop straight out of the bottom under car
I replaced that part last week, i got the pipe from a lad near me breaking one for a tenner and i bought the O-rings for £16, its quite tight to fit but do-able. The condenser looks a bit trickier i think but probably not too bad if you take the front bumper off.
can get a condenser from a mk 2 phase 1 posted for £50 and pipe for 15 so far but just gonna wait to hear from cliospares for their prices how did you undo the nut on the refrigeration unit near the pressure sensor ??? looks very tight
