Leaking Front Shock; replace 1 or both?

  PH2 172
One of my front shocks has started to leak, it's not too bad for now so I'll replace it in the coming weeks.

Quiestion is; should I replace just the one or both front ones? Secondly, if I replace both - is it worth paying extra for some 'uprated' branded ones (ala Koni/Eibach etc) as they don't seem much more for a pair, bearing in mind the rears are both OE and fairly recent.

Cheers

probably replace both, unless they are pretty new. although if they are then you may have some warranty on them?
as to uprating them, what do you use the car for? if it is mostly b roads, comuting, etc then i would honestly go oe, as they seem to be a pretty good balance. saying that though, a set of eibachs with oe dampers will definately improve the drive of the car.
if you are doing a lot of tracks or driving hard on the roads, then by all means go uprated, but again it all depends on how you drive.

The fronts are the original ones AFAIK - so replacing both might be the way to go.

I drive quite hard, and will probably track it before the winter sets in. But how would uprated ones affect the balance with the standard rears? Any uprated ones worth looking at if I went down that route?

if they are adjustable then you will have to go and play until you find a setting you like, if non adjustable i couldn't tell you how the balance would be.
what i can say for sure is that i have been in a few clios with the koni/eibach set up and it is pretty good, not too solid but an improvement for tracks. to get much better than that you are looking at a lot more money.
