Leaking Input Shaft Seal

  '05 Clio 182 Cup
Hello everyone,

I am a 2005 Clio 182 owner living in the Arabian Gulf. I recently did a 80k service (timing belt + pulleys, clutch, water pump, engine mounts) During the service it was noted that the input shaft seal was leaking copious amounts of oil and was removed. I am trying to replace it, however the dealer will only sell the transmission cover w/ seals for 600+ euros.

I only require the seals, therefore I was wondering if it is even possible to source these seals seperately. It seems to be a fairly common problem and I feel that there must be Non-OEM parts that can be sourced to cure this annoying problem.

Many thanks from now

The part in question is it the sleeve that the thrust bearing slides along ? It is clamped inside the bellhousing around the input shaft ? I had this go on my phase 1 172. The seal had popped off and was leaking oil into the bellhousing and over the clutch. I remember that on the Phase 1 172 it simply unbolts from within the bellhousing. I am sure i was told that on the later boxes it had to be completely stripped. The seal was fitted from the inside of the casing. Maybe this accounts for the extensive rebuild kit ? Maybe i am talking rubbish.... in which case i apologise....

As said should be avaliable seperately, had my fail in the JB3 box in my 1.6 bearing failed and then the seal leaking box oil all over the clutch = no drive = :(. Driving 100 miles with an automatic-esk clutch was interesting.

Thanks everyone for your input...

This seal business has dragged on way too long. I have managed to have a seal modified to fit, however due to the ridge that renault has knowingly built into the housing, we (my local mechanic) were unable to insert the seal successfully.

I am desperately searching for a transmission seal kit now. the closest I could find online (http://www.transmission-rebuild-kits.co.uk/) was for a Scenic. cliospares.co.uk told me to go local. Since I don't live in the UK this is not possible.

Are there any other online sources in the UK or Continental Europe whereby I could source such a part (tranmission input shaft seal for a JC5-130 gearbox)...

Any guidance is highly appreciated.

No there is no plate

It is a regular looking seal/o-ring with a stepped lip on it

It has a metal ring integrated into it as well.

What I want to know is my dealer trying to scam me. By selling me a transmission housing with all the seals in it. Or is it Renault policy and its the same way all around Europe.

Please help me the car has been out of commission for weeks and I really need the car back.

Does any one have the Renault parts software? Can they look it up for me. Or ring up their local dealer and see if u get the same run around?

Thanks
