So the exhaust was far too loud and it was also a little on the piss so it was back to @craigyt s house for some more fettling!

Here’s how the exhaust was looking with the straight pipe;

Not looking the best and far too loud! Luckily craig had a cobra back box from the corsa going spare.

Currently chasing a misfire on the 940. Happens under load in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Thought it might be the spark plugs but still missing after changing them so decided to try the fuel filter as there was no evidence that had been changed. It hadn’t, but the misfire still remains!

Fuel pump change shots....

Also put the new old intercooler on. I want upgrade but the one I want it £350 so will
Have to wait.

The internet says the knock sensor might be causing my issues so I’ve ordered one of them. If it’s not that then I’ll have to look at new leads, distributor and rota arm. If that doesn’t work then maybe the fuel pressure reg or potentially the fuel pump.

We shall see!!!

Have you gapped the plugs? I had a misfire under load on the Focus ST & Vectra after cranking up the boost. It was blowing plugs out. Had to gap them down.

Yeah, they were gapped correctly. It ran more boost when I had it before and didn’t miss. It’s a strange one. It just completely cut power just now when I was accelerating in first. I’ll try the c**k sensor and take it from there.

Any kind of OBD system for the car? Like with old Astra's where you bridged a couple of pins and an LED would flash?

Fuel pump and ignition are obviously a good place to start, have you pressure tested that intercooler?
They can sometimes leak at the end-tanks, gasket between the core and plastic tanks IIRC.

There's a 240 with a b20 in at 'u-pull it' if you need to rob some engine sensors etc

Just ordered new dizzy cap and rotor arm as it could probably do with new ones anyway. Hopefully get somewhere with it by the end of the week or the car might end up in u pull it!

Change of location for tonight’s Volvo experience. Unfortunately I had to move the gym up so won’t be able to use it for another year - Shame....

Anyway, @craigyt set about checking some possible issues. Turns out the dizzy cap and rotor arm were pretty shagged so hopefully that’s the issue. I’ve got new ones on order that should arrive on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest!

Could be a HG failure about to happen? Could be leaking coolant into the bore under load. Also check all the hoses as boost hoses can collapse causing the same kind of symptoms from what I remember from my RS Turbo days.

Do you have an intake temp sensor?

Head gasket seems fine, none of the usual symptoms of impending doom but we shall see.

Is it an Innovate?

People often moan that the Innovate ones need re-calibration quite often.
