Lidl Machine Polisher

  Inferno 182 & Saxo
I'm not usually one for detailing and really in-depth car cleaning but had a flick through the Lidl catalogue that came through the door last night and they are doing a machine polish for £20. Reckon its worth picking one up? I hate polishing the car by hand as I'm very lazy

Ye 20 quid back then lots of £s for fixing the damage paid by u :S

I'm just gonna spend 20 quid on some V-power instead after reading the tread posted lol not even the van is worth the hassle

im in the process of looking at electric polishers.

surely a standard polisher will only burn through the paint if you go mad on one spot?

i cant afford a dual action one so am looking at a standard one. maybe im wrong but providing your careful, not to much pressure and dont work on the same spot for to long they are fine

In theory yes but in practice using a normal rotary polisher like a Silverline is a little bit more difficult then using a Dual action like the Kestrel DAS-6. Personally I didnt find it that much of a chore going from the DAS-6 to a rotary but then im quite a smart arse so il try anything :)

You just have to remember the movements on a rotary are different to a Dual Action as you dont have that ossicalted direction (round, round, up , down). ITs constantly spining in the same direction so care is needed not to cause marring/buffer trails.

Certain paint types they dont recommend using say a Rotary...my evo paint is quite soft and have been told using a Dual Action is better as it will reduce the risk of micro-marring.

Im still taking the rotary to it though  Just going to be very careful and check my paint depths/use the least abrasive pad/polish combination.

Thats something to be aware of too that I forgot to mention. Rotary is a lot more powerful and can take away more paint then intended so in theory paint depth should be read/measured.

ok thank, im going to use a polish that fills swirls not removes them. so hopefully thats even less risk

They are cheap for a reason. Cheap motors, no torque control etc etc.

Oh, and who ever said something about Lidl paying for the damage you caused with a machine polisher... christ.

For £15 more you could buy a Silverline rotary. Mine was £35 I think.

Although as said you need to be VERY careful with a rotary. Especially if its your first outing using any form of polisher. I bought I DAS-6, had it for a year then sold it for pretty much what I paid for it I think (I didn't lose muc on it put it that way). I found the Dual Action horrid to work with but the Rotary im finding a doddle. And they say the Dual Action is easier to use generally which is rather odd.

I'm in a similar boat to Andy..

I've been wanting to buy a machine polisher for ages too, although I can't justify paying £120 for a G220 at the moment.

35 quid is fine, i just cant stretch to 80 quid

Your forgetting all the pads/backing plates you will need as the rotary doesn't come with any. Add that lot all up and it will be £80 odd quid.

MY advice would be to have a look in the for sale sections here and on Detailing world. If you can get a DAS-6 complete for less then £80 (highly unlikely but possible) i would bite the guys arm off.

Edit how gay is this forum..I cant even search in the for sale sections for a thread I made. Bah.

Like My 1.6 GT?

Yeah what difference would it make it it were a £250 CP rotary or a lidl polisher? If they are both rotary then they are both dangerous in the hands of an idiot.
