this forum is full of s**t sometimes...just reread the whole thread.

i am 19, and i bought/insured/tax and MOT my genuine LY 182. NO finance, NO loan from parents - simply hard working and saving. im not spoilt, and fully appreciate the car i drive.

and if any of you are ever lucky enough to own a LY you would realise how difficult it would be to colour match - hence me above comment saying the paint looked pretty good if its supposed to be LY

The car looks sexy. I'm with Chris on this one. As long as I have been on this forum, I've seen many similar threads to this one in which someone posts a bodykitted car and everyone starts bashing it. Why do you think it is better to buy a 172 rather than modify your existing car to a decent extent? I believe that Chris hit it spot on with saying that people here are just too afraid to say anything different because everyone will jump on them. What's the point in making a million threads with the same old story once again. If you're saying that the car looks crap, can you tell me whats so tasteless about it that makes you say its hideous and the driver should be tied to a tree and beaten to death with a golfclub? The wheels are spot on and look excellent. The colour is superb. The only thing I can grumble at, is the front spoiler which could be a bit more modest.
On the other threads everyone is telling each other how nice their standard cars with only air filters changed, look. Isn't that ironic?

this car bombs about my town along witha spearmint colured one almost identical in styling and a black one with the most hideous body kit and stupid spoiler i have ever seen. The owner is about 21 or somehting i'd say from looking at him.
I personally would reather have a standard car for a while save up money and save up NCB then get a bigger engine. I hate cars that are all show and no go, but thats me. you see it every othernight in hamilton these body kitted buckets,. with only using second gear so their massive exhausts sound loudest, but yet not physicaslly being able to break 40mph because of the weight of all the mods, driving round and round the MFI/mcdonalds car park.
I think they main difference with this forum and other forums like kustomclio or what ever its called. it that Primarily this club is populated by people who arent into the modifying scene, they are more performance orientate, hence why "Most" have the clio sports, the performance clios. you probably find that the people on here alot of them are suprisingly young, asn you say dont have alot of money to spend and are pushing it to own a RS, but if they do choose to mod they tend to do a few well chosen mods to get the best out of the car to improver the properties which attracted them to the car. the people in the modding scene, do it ( from the onese i know any way) for other people, to show off, to get "respect" alot of the youn ones seem to do it to compensate for the lack of speed. almost like ok ive got a smaller willy than you but ive got bigger muscles and a killer suntan!

Let's ask ourselves one question. Does it look better than if he'd have completely left it alone and done nothing to it? No, I don't think it does. Hence he's ruined it. And probably spent a fortune on it in the process. Bad times.

my god i posted this last night and went out. woke up and theres 5 pages lol

IT IS A SHED! might be a shed well done but none the less a shed. ridiculous money has been spent on that for reasons only the owner knows. i posted it because im a clio enthusiast and i admitt this forum has changed ny idea of modding dramatically. so much so that i pick up my ly in a month. each to thier own i suppose but for any enthusiasts that car is a waste

Forums are for opinions. If we only said nice things, would it be worth it? Some people on here will like it and might not want to say for ridicule, but that is up to them, I had my opinion and I said it, I don't like it, not saying there is anything wrong with it, but its not my taste. I haven't been offensive but I would rather have performance over looks.

What you are saying is correct forums are for opinions and saying you dont like something or it isnt not your cup of tea is one thing but come on some of the bitchy comments on here are disgraceful and uncalled for to say the least. You only have look at some of the threads to see that.. come on we are adults not school children, there really is no need to be so nasty..

I too perfer performance over looks and as I'm old back in my day I was lucky enough to have a 205GTi for my first car but not everyone can afford or even get the insurance for a nice performance car these days, as the prices are just shocking now due to the demand and everyone claiming whiplash, or the amount of RTC's in performace cars these days.

We all have to start somewhere and yes imo some do go over the top with style which isnt to my taste but I look I smile and think hey at least they have an interest take pride in what they are doing and not doing any harm..

The people I b**ch about are the gits driving around with a unroad worthy cars, no insurance or documents, drink drivers, the ones stealing cars..or having a performance car and showing off driving like a tit ragging its nuts off and racing with other idiots in the street which sadly I seen on a few various performance car club meets I've been to in the past which have usually resulted in someone having a near miss or accident, not someone who has flick paint a big front and rear spoiler showing a car and the lastest "Max Power Show Day" not doing anyone any harm.

and with that I step down from my soap box and move on to more important things in life like a nice cup of tea and some toast and go out for a pleasant drive.

it never started life as a LY was a boy from motherwell/hamiton direction that used to own it, as far as i know its down south somewhere now

In the modding sense ur O.A.P's not literallly!

Its like uv all missed out on the first few years when u muck around and try stuff out to see how it looks, uv all just gone for the boring old 40yr old approach, alloys, lowered, job done.

Nice alloys on your car  :rasp:

TBH, the reason most say its w**k, is because well lets be honest it is...

I don't care if he cant afford a 182 there are far better things he could do with his money than make a rolling halfords...

I've been a member on Corsasport for god knows how long now, and the trend is the same everyway, big kits get a slating cause 95% of them look terrible and that IS the reason, not becuase people have decided to jump on any bandwagon at all.

If you like it fair enough, but dont tell people that there narrow minded or up there own arse purely because they think it looks gash...No doubt the girls in the park drinking there white lighting however would be very impressed with it...

Oh and im 20 by the way, O.A.P :(

How trends move on in such a short space of time. Two years ago that would have been quite acceptable on the modded Max Power scene.

It still is acceptable mate and it looks smart, u lot r all just stuck in the O.A.P. modding scene.

[insert] rambling rant with no context that I can't be bothered reading...[/insert]

Get a grip of urselves ffs

CRYING with laughter at you. You my friend need some prozac and a lie down.

It's acceptable to people who like that kind of thing- most people on here don't like that kind of thing... can you see where I'm going?

If you like it, fine, your free to express that- I as much as anyone value people's opinion and freedom of speak, but for that rant you've just made yourself look like an un-educated nob to be honest.

As for the car... it has potential if it didn't have all snow plough accesories. Whatever floats your boat I guess. This doesn't float mine. I'm 21 btw... OAP and nearly dead- obviously.

And why muck about with your own car to see how it looks when other people can make the mistakes for you? I've never done much of anything to any car I've owned, simply because I've seen how wrong people usually get it. I've figured it's easier to live and let live. Then when Mr Chavtastic and his beeyatch Tanya/Tasha/Shazza roll up giving it everything in their de-badged, Max Powered 1.2 horror story, I just ignore them and go about my business, having seen another bodykit/spoiler/set of wheels that looks horrendous and learning a lesson from it. If I EVER saw a set of aftermarket wheels that looked good on a 1*2 then I'd also have learned something, but that has yet to happen I'm afraid.

PMSL @ this thread... oestrogen-tastic.

LY's an iffy colour unless you're a lass anyway, imo.

not a fan of that car, hideous kit for a kick off

Nods'

T Murda..

You've just got into the pyschy of why I like it then! As for the Oestrogen flying everywhere- I feel right at home!

Bit unsure how people can argue so much over a personal opinion though ;)

Silver is such an easy colour to keep tho i've polished a good few silver cars, at times when i've spent 45 mins on one panel pass after pass with the PC the paint never seems to get any brighter the way black or blue does..

theyv modded it to their taste. If it was "ruined" it would be smashed up in a pile somewhere after hitting a wall.

Get a grip of urselves ffs

Taste. Nows theres a word that can cover a multitude of sins...

As for ruined, I'd say in the car world, ruined would imply that a car could no longer be sold for market value, and would have to be sold at a huge loss OR put back to standard. Seeing as most Max Power'd cars end up on Pistonheads for years advertised as "real head turners" (i.e. Ive never looked away from anything so fast in my life) and never get sold, I'd say they were ruined.

Most cars modified on here are done in such away that the owner can sell their car at a slight premium because of the mods (albeit they wont recover the full cost of the modifications but they will get the market value for the car).

If the car shown were to be smashed up in a pile somewhere, I wouldnt say it was ruined Id say it was fixed.

Seeing as most Max Power modders regret modding their cars as such when they get older (or "grow up" which I think is more appropriate), it can only point to the opinion that thi type of modification is pointless.

heya guys im not being funny but i quite like the car, fair enuf i dont really think the kit is to my taste but i do like the car, i often struggle with moddin my car because i think it looks boring when everybody on here makes their cars look the same , but i also dont like tacky shite looking mods, i think that even if the car has a jap bodykit as long as the work put into the car is quality and the paint looks great then there isnt a problem

Coulndt agree with that comment more

The owner has got the colour right! Shame about the body kit. If the motor makes him/her happy, then fair play but not my cup of tea.
