car has been into reotech chelmsford for creaking coming from the steering and they have given me a list of issues with the car.

will get the full list later when i pick it up but -

CV joint or something needs replacing? what is this, is it easy to do myself?

top suspension mounts need replacing one of these is what they think is making the creaking noise when turning the wheel. are these do-able or a bit of a faff?

thanks

CV joint is a new driveshaft and it is Do-able yourself if your half decent with a spanner.

Top mounts can also be done yourself if you have spring compressors and sockets/spanners etc.

um so so with a spanner, i like to try and do as much as possible myself.

im assuming cv joint is what i need to search the guide section for?

sadly i dont have a spring compressor but i do have more than one socket/spanner set. i have most tools to be fair

also just looking at the issues stated one reads tracking needs adjusting and steer wheel off centre.

how the hell does a steering wheel become off centre?

is the one directly infront of you left hand side of the engine, will need a jack to support the engine whilst you change this and the relevant new parts, sockets etc. easyjob. but you need to support the engine properly!

ok cool thanks, so its an easy job with no need to remove loads of stuff to do it?

NSF outer CV boot clip broken - anyone expand on this? - they just brake sometimes, or it wasn't put on correctly I the first place. NEw clip required so longs CV is all ok. Repack with grease.

oil leak from engine and gear box, i need to look into this as ive not seen any oil on the drive - You need to be a bit more specific as to where the oil is coming from. Take a good look yourself, as it should be pretty obvious where its originating from. It may not have a leak at all (it might just be residual). Best thing to do is check for spots on the ground and keep and eye on the oil level indicator and gearbox oil level (difficult to get at).

- Yes that guide is fine, however on a 172/182 you really don't need spring compressors!

^^^ See bold bits.

how the hell does a steering wheel become off centre?

pot holes etc causing the threads to slip on the rod ends. Easy to do your self with the string method :)

Just the mounting point. This is on the driverside top. Make sure you support the engine from below with a jack and a bit of wood or the likes of...
