Ive got my 60k coming up, Renault charge anywhere from £600 to £900.
I can buy most of the stuff i need, cam belt kit, aux kit, plugs, oil & filter for £220 and my mate, who is a mechanic with access to a garage, said he would fit the lot and do the checks for £150, so £370 vs at least £600.
I know which option i will be going for.
Why do Reno stealers feel the need to do themselves out of work constantly??

I would say it's because joe public are on the whole blissfully ignorant when it comes to servicing cars and will accept whatever they're told, especially if they're told it by Renault. It is ludicrous though.

i dont get why people refuse not to service anywhere besides renault... ive heard so many complaints about there service, charges especially bla bla.. people have more money than sense then moan about how much they were charged and the quality of service is crap.. when i service my car everythings genuine and service is top notch, customer service is brilliant too why do people fork out 400+ just because the people who service the car are renault guys..? half the time there silly aprentice boys who help out abit and get things wrong.. am sure local garages get 'clios' and 'corsas' in their garages all the time and know the car inside out.. most of the times when i go to my local garage they know what the problem is straight away...

For that price difference they are quoting different cars, did you give them your registration and VIN number?
I reckon one was with aircon and one was without. All quotes are taken off a centrally controlled system regulated by head office called rapidquote, two different cars are being compared here by the sound of it, not your fault though the service advisors.

Renault do charge more than independant garages, but then again their labour costs are more expensive. Often Renault garages seem expensive compared to other garages but thats because they use genuine renault parts. For example in a cambelt service the whole kit will be replaced including the tensioners. Cheaper back street garages and often the likes of kwik s**t etc will just change the belt with a non-genuine item as part of their cambelt service and won't touch the auxillary belts either. May as well not have bothered at all as its the tensioners that fail.

Its also worth bearing in mind that Renault service centres will price match other garages proving you are comparing like for like, i.e the other garages 36k service includes all the same genuine parts the 'Renault' 36k service does.

What do you call a minor service?

Yes gave reg and stated no air con.

I'm so glad I know my mate, and that he knows renault inside out. I thought a minor was only oil and oil filter. My mate does an oil change with the oil for 25 quid and he'll get under that car to check everything, make me a tea and make me feel warm inside. He even cleans out my engine bay for me...
