Looking at a set of alloys for my mkII clio 5dr, help required!

  MK2 PH1 1.2 5DR
Right, you may or may not have read my introduction thread, I've just got a clio and the first thing I'm looking at is wheels and tyres.

Wolfrace pro sprint black redline have caught my eye, here's a link:

http://www.alloywheels.com/uploads/images_products_large/2090.jpg

I think they suit the car, silver, quite well.

I've seen a few Clio's with 15" alloys and I don't think they are quite big enough, not for the spoke look I'm after anyway. Saying that, I can't find the above wheels in 16" and I think 17" is too big. Although here's a picture of a Clio with. supposedly, 17" pro sprints on:

They don't really look 17" to me but do look a size that suits the car. This is why I'm leaning towards 16" really.

Anyway, what I need to know is the following:

  • Can 205 tyres be fit to the Clio?
  • Would I need tyres with a 40 or 45 aspect ratio with 195 and 205 tyres respectively?
  • Would I have enough room to lower the car a bit in the future?
  • Is wolfrace a good brand? (they're cheap!)
  • Does anyone know if those wheels are available in 16"?
  • If not, any similar wheels to recommend at a similar price?

Erm yeah, I know it's a lot to ask. As I said in my introduction thread I'm quite new to all this. I have looked at tyre dimension calculators and all hat but I don't really understand it, presume someone here can tell me in non mechanic words! :D

Personal opinion don't get 17s on a Clio. Makes it look like its on stilts and the handling is awful. My mates got 17's on his, and feels nowhere near as nice as the 16's i had on mine.

You could lower the car, but it would scrape. Look around sites like potn and rimstyle and you'll find some decent wheels.

  A blue one
iv got some tsw modena's for sale mate. there 16" and i had them on my clio for about 6 months, looked mint. there perfect condition too. wont about 250 for them. pm me :D cheers gazz...

I had some Pro Sprints on my old car... They were the chrome/silver version, after about 6months, they went all dodgy and the laquer started the peel and what I can only describe as mould or some sh1t underneath it...

Yeah I know 16" would be better. Really set on the pro sprints if I could find them :( Had a decent look on rimstyle which seems a good site. Dezent type Vs would be good, but in black which I can't find. Team Dynamics Monza r also good but the cap in the middle could make me throw up. Would scrape on 16"s?

lol aspect ratio

not sure they fit a 5 door mate

What wouldn't fit? As I said I'm a bit of a noob. :(

Thanks for the heads up, doesn't quite turn me off them though as I really am struggling to find others that take my liking. Determined on black wheels which narrows the search results a bit. What size tyres did you have on with them?

That's my biggest question really, no clue what tyre sizes would fit?

And how much would it cost to paint a set of wheels?

I cant remember what tyres, but they were on my Punto, and they were definately totally different size to what you need for a Clio becasue I wanted to put them on for a bit while I got some good alloys, but they wouldnt fit.

I had my dynamique alloys refurbed/resprayed anthracite at my local body shop for £45 per wheel!

I meant to put that question to reverb, got confused with my quoting.

Hmm, I might be tempted then, although it's close to what the original wheels I was looking at cost :D

Anyone got any info on tyre sizes? Once I know those I can pretty much go hunting but there isn't much point until then .... 195/45/16?

Would the arches and that be the same between the 172 and the standard though? I'm guessing not?
