Looking to Buy 172 Clio Sport - Advice Pls

Hello All,
Looking to buy a 172 ClioSport, and have found one up the road. It's unfortunately on Cat D, shunt to n/s front, but on a 52 plate with 25800k on the clock. She's looking at £4500 for it - with a little leeway on price. Need advice on the following remedial work needed please....

1) She has been advised (and charged £300 by Renault) to install a new alternator as the present one is well noisy and whiney. They charged her this as they state they had to take off portions of the engine to pull off the old unit to investigate - is this true or have they pulled her chain? Would a decent second hand unit do in one of these and how much of a job is it? I listened to the engine jut now and it certainly has the alternator whine, but also sounds a little 'thumpy' in the same area - pulleys / tensioners??

2) If i'd buy I'd do the alternator belt pulley and tensioner to boot - how long would this take, roughly?

3) Needs a service now, approx 25.8k - what kind of service would this be and any idea of cost. Surely it doesn't matter that it's not main dealer any more - Cat D and all that.

4) Vehicle has been repaired to a good standard, but the n/s inner wing has still not been fitted. Any ideas who much these would cost and the kind of labour involved in fitting? Is it a DIY job or much more complicated?

5) She needs new tyres certainly, possibly four - how much should I factor in for four decent ones?

6) She has replaced exhaust (mid section to the rear) with a non renault one. She states that it is more noisy than the dealer part. It certainly was a little raspy although it looked in very good condition.

That's all really. What do you guys think of the price as it is for £4.5k on a 52 plate low miler, Cat D? No leaks, good brakes and discs.

Anything further I should look into - a mech will be looking her over for me next week if still for sale.

Please guys, help appreciated. I have only recently come accross these little beauties and would like to own one!

I see what you mean. I supopse Cat D's are a little tainted to a degree. Maybe if I chipped in with a cheeky offer of £3.5k!? She does need to buy a house after all.

Cheers for the links mate, appreciated.
Everything is just so far away from me (Nth West Wales), and I have so little spare time to travel...all of them seem to be high milers though and the low miles on this one is what attracted me in the first place.
Keep the suggestions coming though.
Oh, and the one has to have the silver inserts inside - I really dislike the blue ones although I feel that the exterior blue colour is well nice.

Cor, She'd kick me in the nuts for that. You think it's really that bad? Sorry, a little naiive with these little monsters. Here is the link to the trader ad: -

I agree that it's not worth anything near her asking, and I mean anything near!

Cheers

It is, but when I went to view she came out with all of the other bits, as well as the things I picked up on as mentioned in the initial post. £300 from Renault to fit an alternator is pee take.
I have had so much bad experiences with Volvos, Saabs, Subarus when you take them to independents - nobody wants to touch them - 'ooh - too complicated' they say. I wonder if they'd be the same with this!!

there are a lot of renault specialists so find your nearest decent one and you should be ok with that side of things!

If i'm honest i would never buy one, unless it's under warrenty, never mind one thats been in a crash.

  182 inside
any front end damage would be a no no for me unless pics to prove minority of crash. if it was a bumper, bonnet and headlight then okay but

not happy with suspension etc has the car been straightened on a jig. bet not.

Good points people. I am asking them as we speak and the answers are a little vague. As she said, 'the new wing is a little bit more bluey silver' than the reast of the car'!!!!

Maybe I'll offer her 3 grand!
