Lost all drive to front wheels - Circlip Issue I hope

Hi Guys

The other day I was driving around when all of a sudden I lost all drive to the front wheels. No noise everything look fine so I hope its the cir clip thats come loose, Now for quite a while the same side where the cir clip lives the drive shaft end that connects to the wheel keeps coming loose and looks quite threaded and the bearings have also became noisy on that wheel. could this all be related? I was going to change the bearings this weekend any way but now i need to change this stupid circlip and washer too! Could the drive shaft be the culprit?

And as the Renault part number has been superseded 3 times does this mean it wont happen again?

this happened to me, unfortunately not good news, i needed a new box as the driveshaft had come out at the gearbox end and put a hole in it. apparently. i got a rebuilt box that had a modified circlip (stronger) to prevent the well-known circlip issue from repeating itself

OK So I think I was wrong as after removing the drive shaft I find that I must have a later model gearbox that doesnt have simply a circlip it has 4 bolts and a frame holding it all together, see pics bellow.

In the process I drained all the oil out and found no metel shavings just nice clean oil.

Im at a loss, what else could it be? does it have something to do with the other side drive shaft? (the 2 piece one) or clutch or input shaft?

When i had the car jacked up if i turned the wheels by hand they would spin fine and from both sides, Help please,

sounds a bit like the diff has gone, but wouldve probly been clunking on turns for a while before going then rattley if you had no noise at all then is a bit starnge

when its up in the air and in gear can you spin one wheel and the other spins in the opposite direction?

yeb but i think i can make it slip, I now think its the right hand inner drive shaft spline is gone, Now I been told you can simply press the old one out and press a new one in, any ideas on this?

Yeah the driver side just slides in and out

Was going to suggest checking the spline on the engine side of the box, where the right hand driveshaft slides over. Have seen that issue before, although it was a damaged shaft rather than the splines missing off the gearbox... so it was an easy fix.

Ok turns out the drivers side drive shaft the end that goes into the gearbox the inside spline of the drive shaft had turned to dust. every tooth completely ground off. luckily the gearbox end is all sweet, new drive shaft and i should be sweet!
