Lost the clip for the rear brake pads

Somehow i've managed to lose the little clip part that holds the sliding piece in place which holds the pads. Stolen image but the clip that holds that part.

Is it vital? Can I knock something up to do the job? Can I drive without it to go and buy a new one?

Personally I'd find something like a paper clip and bend it into a shape that would do the same job as original

Good call, I've gone for a cut down bobby pin as a temp seems stronger than the original
