Low Budget, High Quality iPod Connection

I have read numurous posts from people who want to know the best way of connecting their iPod in the car.

Probably the best way to do it is using the dension link but this is quite pricey. The only requirement for my method is to have an aftermarket Headunit with aux input capabilities.

You will need:
1. Some kind of ipod holder (ebay)

2.SIK DIN Portable Line Out (http://www.everythingipod.co.uk http://www.everythingipod.co.uk)- splits bottom ipod connection into firewire port(for charging) and a stereo line out)

3. Male to male firewire cable (http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk www.cableuniverse.co.uk)

4. Firewire charger for cigarette lighter (ebay)

5. Red/white phone to stereo cable

6. Appropriate lead to connect to HU

Heres what my iPod set up looked like before:

As you can see, not that great!

First of all, find appropriate place to put iPod and holder. I placed mine on the central vents. I then removed the coin holder next to my heater dials and fed the firewire cable and auido cable through the dash.

Then i connected them to the SIK DIN cable (on the seat)

I then connected the other end of the firewire cable to the power.

Then i just pulled all the wires through, clipping the slack up behind the dash, made a slight adjustment to the coin holder, to get the cables through, and attached the ipod and this is the finished result: And then what it looks like in the dark

ok this Alpine KCA-420i Kit only works with the following Alpine Ai-NET units,
2005 Models: CDA 9847R
2004 Models: CDA 9830R, CDA 9831R, CDA 9833R, CDA 9835R, IVA-D900R, IVA D300R, IVA D300RB, CVA 1004R, CVA 1004RR, INA N333RS, INA N333RRS
2003 Models: CDA 9815RB, CDA 9813R, CDA 9812RB, CDA 9812RR, CDA 7998R

think they have missed it of that list, and it may be different as it is a US model but the CDA prefix means it has Ai-Net connection whihc is what is needed to make it work.

The list did not have the 2003 models on it when i bought my KCA-420i for my 9815 but it worked fine then a wee while later they added it on. Im sure the CDA-9827 would be totally fine, maybe just cause it is a US unit it is not listed.

Where did you take that list from CAR AUdio Direct?

It was on an email i got from car audio discount...

that one above doesnt have the quick search function or something whcih means the interface doesnt work (well thats what i was told about the other cheaper HUs)
