Low power on cold start

Hi Guys,

My 53 plate 172 seems to have developed a problem over the last few months. When I fire it up from cold and the auto choke is on, there seems very little power for about the first 30 seconds or so. Im not revving the thing, just driving normal but there seems a big hesitation even at the lower revs.

Soon as the choke comes off all is fine. Normal power is available with no hesitation.

Any ideas before I take it in to the garage?

Sounds normal to me, the 172 goes into an emissions mode from cold start and behaves really crappily for the first minute or so.

yep sounds like mine first thing in the morning. this added to the wishy washy clutch makes it a hoot to drive.

shouldnt be driving fast , or high revs from cold anyway!!!

I let my valver idle for a good few mins before even driving off

I dont rev it mate. I wait till the animal warms up first!

Good to see this isnt just mine that does this. Saves me a trip to the garage
