Lowering costs

Hopefully going to view a 197 on Saturday. Anyone know roughly how much it would cost to lower it by 7mm? I've never done anything like this before so i have no idea what to expect.

you cant generally lower cars by just 7mm. you will have to buy a set of lowering springs which usually start at about -35mm

as madmike1 says, you cant really lower it 7mm. Though i presume you are asking about that because the Cup is 7mm lower than standard? If you want cuplike improved handling then you will need to look at stiffer dampers and springs.

If you want the cup suspension then you need to speak a dealers to get prices for the cup parts. If you want aftermarket then I would look at Eibach Springs and Koni Shocks which will set you back about £500 + fitting. Or look at Coilovers which will set you back even more.

but with coilovers or even a set of springs and dampners they will still lower the car more than 7mm so if you want the improved handling with only a 7mm drop then the only thing you cuold do is get the cup suspension from renault

So is the Eibach springs etc decent or is it best to go with coilovers? I'm not that fussed if it is lowered by more than 7mm, just don't want it too low.

Decent aftermarket stuff properly setup will be better than cup suspension though probably lose some of the ride comfort.

EDIT: The eibach koni combination is excellent and very good value for money. Decent coilovers (H&Rs) will cost a lot more, but properly setup will be better again.

so its best to wait til the warranty is ended. Do you know of anywhere round the Midlands area that will do this?

Horses for courses, if you want it done then do it, as most things to worry about you'll be replaing anyway. What i would say is get the car and decide once you've got it if you want lowered suspension or not

okie dokie. I did want to buy a 197 with the cup chassis but they are few and far between.

I've got one more question: Do all the F1's come with recaros?

Yes all the F1s had recaros and cup suspension as standard.

They're too hard and firm, i like a bit of comfort. Ideally i'd like a F1 with standard seats.
