LSD time. Best box suggestions

Car  ph1 172 Excl, Cossie
Right dudes,

I have plumped for a Quaife ATB for my car, and before I fit it, is there a box worth sourcing to put it in that is better ratio wise than my existing one?

I heard rumours that Cup cars are the kiddies with a lower final drive, but just wanted this confirmed seeing as I am new to the Clio fold!

Thanks a lot

Weeksy

There are essentially 4 gearbox options for the 172/182 to the best of my knowledge:
Ph1 172 - Taller final drive, speedo drive included
Ph2 172 (early ones and cups) - Shorter final drive, speedo drive included
Ph2 182 - Shorter final drive, no speedo
Ph2 182 -Shorter final drive, no speedo, bolt in diff

For what you are doing, I would think that the Ph2 with speedo drive is your best bet, this is what I have in my mk1 with a quaiffe, it is slightly lower geared final drive than the box you have in your ph1 to begin with and it has the speedo drive that you require.

Perfect Chip.

Thanks a lot fella, much appreciated my good man.

Exactly what I wanted to know dude!

Do you happen to know the codes of the box I require to ensure I get the right one?!

Thanks

Weeksy

Thanks dude.

Do you know the code on the box Tom?

Do you boys all use organic clutches?

Im sure the standard clutch is fine mate, even on the low boost turbos at 250 bhp use a standard clutch.

Has anyone done a hydraulic clutch conversion on these cars?!

The clutch pedal is heavier than my Cossie!

I think this is something I may address when the box is off! Chip, this sort of thing has your name all over it!

The clutches on these last forever. Mine had about 80k on the clock when I changed my clutch to do my release bearing. The old clutch had not much wear at all.

But as Dan said, when I put the new one in it was soo much lighter.

Wow, well surprised by the clutch life!

Thanks Chip, you are a star dude!

Now to try and fine one semi local!

yeah the clutches last forever but just get heavier and heavier

I also have a phase 2 box with speedo and a quaife in it :)

Noted, I would have presumed (first mistake of the day!)that it would have had at least one clutch by now!

A seemingly good combo then! Good to hear!

Belt and dephaser next, then box and clutch for me! I will drive this car one day!!

just checked from the previous owners of my 182 (the LSD box is in my mk1 track car) and mines never had a clutch, '04 plate and 124k on it now.
