LY 200 EDC Wheel Option 2

I should stop browsing Ebay really, I'm a sucker for wheels. 9pm last night these came up on my radar in the 5x114.3 search. By 10pm I'd agreed to buy them and pick them up.

So after 385 miles and 7 hours driving to Shrewsbury and back this morning these are wheel

option 2 for the EDC. They're off a Subaru so I have to machine the centrebores 10mm bigger, the ET is gonna be soo tight. I think the wheels will sit virtually flush to the arches but I won't know until I've had the centre machined out so I can offer them up.... But I'm quietly confident they'll work... I'll get them to work.
I'm looking to paint them white.

Cheers! As the saying goes.... It's worth the extra mile for the right things. Like any petrol head it's hard to explain to other people that it's worth driving that far, waste of time, waste of a Sunday but to me it's a day out anyway. Well a morning as I'm back by lunchtime.

I do like the TD's in silver. A timeless looking wheel. Same with the Speedlines tbf.

are the TD's 16's? Dont suppose you could weigh each wheel if you have scales, im very curious the weight difference between the two.

The Speedlines are edging it for me at the moment, I like the fact the spokes go right to the edge of the rim and they're fairly flat. Unlike the TDs that roll down towards the rim and also do it more rolling towards the bolts at the centre.

You could safely have 3mm machined off the face to reduce the ET.

I think the Turinis will suit your EDC better over the TD's. The sharper spokes will compliment the angles on the body better.

Thats good to know if I need it, more so on the back as the fronts have more tolerance in the arches.

TD Pro Race 7Jx17 ET40

The TDs do work, my number crunching on the Speedlines suggest they'll stick out another 6-8mm than the TDs... Which is just in tolerance to the arch... So in theory that 3mm skim could help which I'll have done on 2 of them.

Definitely worth it for what I paid for the 6 of them. They're around £180-200 each new, even with the machining I'm still quids in.

I do like the TDs but as soon as I offered up the Turinis next to them they just looked bigger as the spokes run right to the edge. Fingers crossed

I'm thinking outside the box Ian, I want to try something different. No one's really changed wheels on the EDC apart from Tom Cazneaux with the HLTs, I fancy a change in appearance and think the Turinis will do that.

He was surprised I was travelling up from Essex! To be fair I had a result as he actually lives in North Wales but agreed to drive an hour to Shrewsbury to make the deal. He did say in the ad he'd be willing to travel a certain distance. You don't get if you don't ask and for what it costs in a courier it worked out the same in diesel and to pick them up the next day.

Me too! Itching to trial fit them so I'm calling the engineering company tomorrow to get them in hopefully for Tuesday. I think white will make the difference, I think they need to be that opposed to black or anthracite otherwise I feel they'll be 'just' another wheel.... But not whacky in colour.

I was about to ask about machining costs, but you have answered already! Is the £25 just to have the centre bore altered, or to skim the mounting face too? I have wondered about trying to get a set like this in 18" for my Megane. Think they would really suit it.

Just to enlarge the centre bore, as the wheels are there he said he can skim the rears at the same time for a little extra. He did say a one off would be nearer £40 so I imagine that's the time in setting up the machine, once it's done he can just crack on with the other 3. From my crude calculations I think the rears might need 3-5mm skimmed off the back.

Thanks for the info, useful to know. Seems to be a decent supply of these wheels in the Subaru/Evo rally world. I was always put off the Subaru ones due to the centre bore but not an expensive fix by the sounds of it.

What do you have that's 5x114.3 per chance? Ideally I wish the Turinis were 18" so I could just swap the tyres over, nether the less the Clio comes on 17s as std so I know it will work.

Rally track wheels for Vauxhalls are ten a penny too, I found this when buying OZ tarmac wheels for the Clio 182. I had a set of Vauxhall 4x100 centrebores machined out to Renault 60.1mm. It's amazing what you can find when snooping around particular websites.

I believe the Megane offsets are worse then the EDC? ET60s, saying that the Subaru wheels tend to have a higher ET than most (around the 50 mark) so they'll stick out half inch more but not past the arch.

Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mazda are 5x114.3. The only downside I've found is most of the wheels are JDM inspired, deep dished and mega low ET.

Also, if you like the style and go with wobble bolts. ET55 as well, or the engineering company can re drill the wheel bolts to 5x114.3 from 5x112. Centrebore is exactly the same as the Megane.

Yeah, ET65 as standard. You seem to be able to get away with as low as ET40 pretty much though, so plenty of wheel arch clearance, it's just the potential negatives on the way it drives.

I have wondered what the Mazda RX-8 PZ wheels would look like on a Megane but never seen any pictures!

Dropped a pair off at the wheel place after work today and will be ready for the same time Tomorrow. If I wasn't so busy tomorrow evening I would have trial fitted them, so Thursday it is.
