I havent posted on here on a while, and whilst WFH I feel a little Forum posting renaissance coming along.

Since selling the slut of the R56 Mini world, and giving back the MK7.5 Golf GTI Lease car, I have moved on.

Last September I picked up my first brand new car purchase, discounting the Golf as a lease car.

The child in me was glad I waited for a 69 plate.

It's the right car, in the colour I wanted with the spec I wanted: MANUAL. In fact, on my search its pretty much the only manual car of its class you can get for this cheap! So cheap my friend picked up a black one a week later.

I've been running it as a daily/fun weekend car ever since, as it became my only car! First time I've been down to one car in a few years.

So yeah, its bloody fast. Feels very similar to my E92 M3, the gearbox especially. It just doesnt have that soundtrack. But in reality, its a lot better car to live with day to day.

Sorry, kinda boring. But last week I bought an MG ZT and tracked it, so I'm not all grown up. And I'm actively looking for a 172/182, so maybe I can finally own a Clio again? 10 years after I last did.

Nice, is it white or Hockenheim silver?
Indeed, Hockenheim Silver1
Have you passed your driving test?
When my mum lets me borrow her car for it maybe.
Nice, not tempted to track the M2 instead of an MG though?
Of course, its how it all started. But I managed to get an MG And a track day for the price of the trackday, insurance and a set of rears on the M2. Plus the advantage of Give-no-f***s tracking of course!

One of the most disappointing cars I've driven in recent years in an F80 M4.

These however, look amazing. Are they the sum of their parts? The recipe looks excellent.

Wait what..

You found an M4 disappointing (I won't dwell on that). But you like the look of M2s?

Depends what M4 he drove, but I also found them annoying. Before I bought the E92 there was an early M4 at the dealers that I originally went to look at. Thing just wanted to fire you into every hedge it could, felt so nervous. The noise was annoying as well.

M2 Comp obviously has the same engine, but drives much more "old School" and by that I mean, it drives exactly like the 92. Feels much more composed on british roads.

Apparently the upgrades on the M4 circa 2017 made it a much better car.

I really did, and it goes against just about everyone that owns one. I felt nothing through the steering, sure it was fast, but it just didn't do anything for me.

That's why I ask if the M2 is as good as its spec list, a shorter wheel base, less weight, than an M4 yet with the same engine works in its favour. I've driven many E46 and '92 M3 and love every single minute of the experience. I said the M4 was like wearing three condoms. I've driven a couple, one was early, one was 2018 i think.

All IMO, of course. I'm sure as a daily they're excellent.

Interesting you think it drives more like an E92 than the F80 (considering how many parts the M2 and M4 share). The short wheelbase:wide track ratio is much more square than any M car that has preceded it. I always imagine they must rotate quite quickly when they do eventually go.

Yeah it’s an odd one, and I only had a test drive in the M4. I just felt on edge and uncomfortable with it, it felt nervous and twitchy.

The M2C however, has that “M” car feel that I know. And that’s really kind on the limit, you always feel like you can catch or even hold a slide in it! Doesn’t look like it should drive that way I agree!

Love them! Definitely on the shortlist for next car (if I can afford one [emoji23])

Definitely the colour to have one in, quite like the red top thinking about it. There’s one just down the road from me & it looks awesome.

Nice to see you back youth.

Decent purchase, not sure on the colour however, what else is there in the standard list? Is it your camera skills making it look VERY white?

No it’s just very white. The selection was blue, black, white and Hock silver.
In the end I decided the “silver” was best.

The difference with Hock is it's the only comp exclusive colour, making it the one to have an the correct choice!

Oh and an M2 comp is twice the car a standard M4 is. It just is in every way! I really did not like the m4, it never felt like an m car, and just didn't do anything bar twitch like Jason said. The m3 wasn't that much easier but felt more like an m car.

The m2 comp is still the one to buy, reminds me of the fast Cayman Vs a 911. Useable and enjoyable everyday. Where you would need to be Lewis to get the same out an m3/m4.

Love it!

I’ve seen the photos on Instagram you’ve been posting and it always gets me looking at them again. I still think I’d go DCT though.

How do you find the steering compared to the e92? And if you’ve driven the M135/140/235/240 how does it compare to them.

Yeah this was the factor which pulled me toward Hock. It’s the only exclusive colour! I nearly went black.

I’m not actually a massive fan of the orange unless it’s clean.

Very nice. Would have loved to stretch to an M2 but the thought of the service and running costs post me off.

As it’s a new car it’s not that bad. Servicing intervals are variable, so other than the run in service (ouch) you’re not spending the earth.

I’m not sure I fully documented the abject misery of my previous experience with BMW Dealers when I had the E92, but they kicked off ownership with the M2 by leaving the transportation packers in the rear suspension. So they had two top mount

I’d say the steering is largely similar in feel, it’s still a modern heavy car. The adjustment you can now have for the engine and steering gives you a wider range of options, though I prefer the heaviest. It’s quite nice having 2 mapable M buttons rather than just 1!

I’ve been in a couple of M140i’s and they did nothing for me. The engine seems very dull to me, not helped by DCT either. Never actually driven any of the latest 1 series stuff though, maybe it’s better from the driver seat?

Not long after getting it I went to Wales Rally GB with my friend who bought the black one. My other friend bought his RS3 and a couple of passengers, was interesting that when one friend hopped from the RS3 to the M2 he commented how much nicer the M2 sounds from inside. Outside it’s a different ball game, I think my car sounds shite. But the RS3 sounds incredible !

Probably should update this.

Last week, or the week before. I forget already. Anyway I sold it! Redline Specialist cars offered me way too much for it, and made the sale very very easy too. Lockdown meant I barely used it, and even post lockdown I’ve not used it enough to justify the cost.

The DCT versions of these are also being leased for about 12p in order to get rid of surplus stock, as they’re ending M2 production. Values will hurt for a bit because of this I’m sure!

Anyway. To summarise ownership:

- Drives like a proper old school M car.
- Batshit fast, sounds good from inside and shite from outside. That’s fine by me!
- Interior that Kia would be embarrassed by, presumably put together by toddlers.
- Only has to deal with BMW once and they were pretty poor, as ever.

You can spec Hockenheim as an Individual colour though.

I’d have paid them £4K to spec the M2 in green but they wouldn’t do individual on it. Only 3/4 Series and up.

Stratstone were doing a PCP deal for £499 deposit and £499 a month over 4 years this month. Silly cheap all things considered, although it was standard spec + DCT, no packs and in stock only, something like £11k dealer contribution and 1.5% apr.

I really fancy one of these for my next car still, but for now I'm happy with what I'm in. And in a couple of years time I don't know if i'll want to drop what will still be a large wedge of cash to sit in a 10 year old interior.

Yeah the PCP/Lease deals are insane. The M2 is going out of production, and I assume the backlog of DCT cars is because they build a load expecting an easy sale (Assuming DCT sells more) and then Covid happened.

I've seen several new M2's appear on instagram/facebook, even the work carpark!

Selling mine was a no-brainer when I got the offer through. I already bought the car using the VIP Scheme via work, and paid a small deposit and monthlies. Still managed to get out with Equity after just 11 months! It actually didnt cost much more than the £200pm GTI Lease I had in the end.

Sorry, didn't mean that. I meant you can spec the colour on other cars, so it's not totally a unique colour.
I haven't seen it as an option on any. Thought it was quite unique to the comp. It'll be an m colour on the new range but for now it was M2 comp which I liked.

I recommended it because you can't spec a normal m2 in hock. Where you can spec all the other colours in M2 and comp. Including the orange iirc. I don't like the orange. Valencia was so much nicer.
