mac mini

anyone using one as a htpc ? is it able to play highbitrate 1080 ts files without trouble ?

any decent usb tv tuners that will work under xp too ???

also then is leopard out ???

Leopard isn't out until next year..

HTPC - HD stuff 1080i , you'd need the Core Duo CPU, but apart from that, yes, they play it perfect :)

Played the 1080 trailers direct from frontrow into my bosses mahoosive plasma TV (dvi->hdmi) without any problem, that was on a core duo mini.

Core Solo can't quite keep up.

2GB RAM is great for a desktop, but I'm sure 1GB would be more than enough for a HTPC.

it would be doing both really dual booting with xp also its just a shame the gpu doesnt have a bit more balls :(

True, but for what it's designed to do (run OSX well), they are fine.
My mate just sold his Core Duo with 1GB RAM, and it was perfect in OSX.

He doesn't play games etc.. tho, but then.. that's what xbox/ps2's are for ;)

It might not have the best GPU around, but in all other respects it's fast as f**k. You have to bear in mind that apple did not intend it as a games machine, it's a replacement for the bulky PC that for 95% of people is only used to surf the web, check for mail and do the odd bit of word processing, it's Apples low end entry point mac.

I've not tried to play games on it, but everything else I've done on it has been very fast. :)

i wont play games on it either i dont do pc games not bought one since diablo 2 lol

its strange how alot of stuff is running faster on the mini when it runs xp than running stuff under osx
