Macbooks

Probably worth noting, just went to pc world to have a look at the mini, he said pc world don't do student discount, it would have to be the apple store for that!

He said to compete with them he will throw in a word processor with the mini as apparently it hasn't got one? Can on be downloaded? I know you can buy it but it's around £70 i think, surprised it doesn't come with it standard.

I'll goto apple as it works out cheaper!

Is it that cheap? I thought it was quite a bit more than that?

The good thing is that you don't have to buy the additional warranty until the very last day of your first year's ownership. It then gives you an extra 2 years cover. :)

D.

yes mate but its only £50 if you get the education discount (otherwise its around £280)

If you pay using the student discount you get the option to buy 3 years for £50 (stupid not too really). After the 3 years is up you proceed as you said, topping it up with more years.

Don't download MSN. Its w**k for mac's. other programmes:

  • Adium - (better than msn)
  • Transmission - better than vuse
  • Mac the ripper - Rips any dvd/media to your HDD
  • hand brake - converts it into what ever format you want.

Nah i wouldnt bother, save a bit more and its a new macbook with the better graphics.

I wish I could but a combination of factors, including paing back money lost from writing off the cup, having to save an additional 5k for a better house deposit and having an accountant who watches every penny means I probably can't do this :(

I am however interested in the one you have for sale....

What's the best option regarding Office-type apps on Macbooks? Is it wise to stay clear of MS Office and just go for Apple's own variation?

D.

I have got office and tbf its pretty good, the format is a lot different so it takes a while to figure out where things are, especially in excell... Although I have never tried apples version.

Cheers m8. Does a spreadsheet saved in Mac Office say, open up fine on the PC Excel version?

Pages and Numbers are brilliant IMHO!

Tom- is that the Apple version of Word and Excel?

Cheers,
D.

Yeh they all save in office format. I use it as uni have office installed on their PC's and compatibility is fine... Although I would be tempted to try out words/numbers (which also work office).

Joking? Didn't realise a pro went so cheap. Only would have been £20 more than my ram upgraded MacBook. What's the difference between MacBook 13 and a pro 13 though? Apart from colour?

I just looked and there Not much different. For £20 more I would have had 2gb ram instead of 4 and 160gb hdd instead of 250gb and metal case (which is nice but not worth losing the rest) an sd slot which I don't use and illuminated keys (ok that's cool but still prefer extra performance) what's different about the screen? Can't see one on compare page.

True I just checked this to.

I don't think I can justify spending £160 extra just for the keys lol. I look after my laptops so the shell won't benifit me.

Where did you get £160 from? lol..

The shell will go all yellowly. They all do. Plus illuminated keys and a SD slot is nice to have.

Plus it says Pro :approve:

Lol - well the Macbook is £687 + £50 for insurance = £740ish

Macbook Pro is £772 + £50 insurance = £820ish

I would upgrade the HD to 250gb, so thats another £40 so £120 my bad lol

Should of said this at the beggining lol
