matched inlets or decat?

well i was under the impression ALL 172 cups had the RS inlet, and most of them do, but the odd few don't, again same with 182's most do, some don't

its all a bit random, but we'll blame the frenchies for that!

Yeah strange one. My old Cup (Nov 2002) had RS inlets, but the one i had just recently didnt, again a 2002.

Anyway i'd decat and inlets, then a RS tuner remap. Good little set up that for not a lot of £££

Mine does though, so the 800 quid or so I get from swapping will pay my insurance on the cup haha, times are hard Fred.

I'd definitely say inlets are worth matching, RS stamped or not!

Two 182s I have personally matched the inlets on have gained 8bhp at the wheels!

i agree with jack_davey.
my rs inlets were worth matching imo, they are so smooth inside now, from factory they were a little pitted and every little helps. 1mm more capacity over a area of half a square cubic metre (for instance) is worth having! and its a fairly cheap mod.

Smoothness is not always the key as you need the fuel and air to atomise and mix well, still need a rough surface on any head or inlet. But no big steps like are inlets

My 53 plate 172 had the fabled RS inlet from the factory. It was replaced with a matched item and it made sod all difference, if I'm honest. Decat was a much better mod in terms of tangible effect on how the car performed and cost.

Some people think that matching the inlets is a must-do mod, but imho it's a bit of a gamble as to whether it makes any difference at all.
