may have screwed up headlight restoratipn

That's the first stage of restoring them...

Now work your way up the grits.. 1500-2000 etc etc.

Then polish. Done.

2 minutes with 1200 wet then polish up and they'd be done.

I'd happily polish them up with my DA/rotary because I can see you're going to be there for ages if you don't even know what polish to use lol.

800 isn't mega bad to be fair, just take your time and go over them again with a higher grit, polish up and should look a lot better.

right so this is what it looked like after sanding with 800 for half hour

then today after 1200 then 1500 then polish with some paint tcut I had laying around need to get some plastic X i think it is?

So what should I do now do I continue sanding or should I polish it out?
what the best product to use on the headlights to polish out?

p.s. glad to have amused you guys I will admit to being an idoit and not fully reading up on what to do but I do tend to learn my lessons the hard way but I will eventually learn and be able to perform meaningless tasks like this without screwing it up

you need to work your way upto atleast 2000 gritt.
and use a good compound/ polish. Tshit aint gona Cut it

haha maybe if black inserts to be diffrent
( no I need new two new front tyres and a new steering wheel retrim as my thumb grip on the right has melted and is falling part in the sunlight.)

I used 1200-1500-200 grit paper, cleaned then down with warm water, then used some Meguiar's scratchX 2.0, and then some auto glym super resin polish! Came out like new mate! Like said before 800 is abit too harsh to start with, but you can only learn bud, at least they're rescue-able (even a word?) and you don't need to shed out on new headlights!

It'll be alright hope it's sorted soon!

yes, you look to be having a good sanding consistancy.
straight lines no circle'n or you will be having pig tails when polished up.

looks like you've taken the hazing out, but you'll only know how good it is after all the hard work you've put in.

rule of thumb- prep work makes all!

I cant understand how they've gone SO bad :S its as if you've used 240 grit or something! obviously you havent....Maybe you went a bit mad for too long with the 800?

I did mine not so long ago using 800, 1000, and 1200, then buffed with a DA using the compound that came with it and they're mint. Never needed 2000 grit.

Go over all again starting with 1000, 1200,1500,2000,2500, use a bottle with spray nozzle with a tad of washing up liquid and fill with water, bucket of warm water chuck all grit paper in there and leave for 15 mins.

I cut 1 full sheet down into 4 pieces, I use 2 of each pieces on each headlight, squirting water every so often and wipe down and check over, next grit paper. Repeat as follows

Use a machine polisher with a cutting pad and a good compound to help remove the sanding marks.

Should end up like above, keep calm dude it's all in the prep work like said.
