That happened at one of the fastest sections on the Nurburgring, so we are talking 145+ in a megane before it went wrong.
I'd take a punt that he lost it on the hump in the circuit (flugplatz) just before you start the entry into the corner (aremberg). Very nasty crash and extremely lucky people!

For those who have missed it. From looking at the above pics, the car looks to have stood up well. Wouldn't fancy that sort of smash in an AX GT!

I'm not sure, but to put it into perspective... We went this year and my mates turbo blew and it pissed oil out for a couple of hundred yards, and they recovered the car and cleared up the mess. No damage to car or circuit. = £2000
Sh*t a brick!! That's one hell of a pile of sand and recovery truck.

Armco was at one point in time €60 per mtr to replace at the ring. The Armco is also 3 high in some of the big accident hotspots.
So to put it into perspective, the average accident required the replacement of around 60-80mtrs of one tier...............
Factor in the cost to fit the Armco, the cost of the track closure and you soon run up a big bill!! The track closure costs at one point in time were calculated on how much they lost in revenue whilst the track was shut. So if that equates to €3000 in an hour and your accident meant the track was shut for an hour, they added that on to your bill.
Lol!! I believe things have changed now in terms of charges, but it's not a place to crash for definite.

Standard UK insurance no longer covers the 'ring as they've got wise to it. They haven't done for the past 10 or so years. You can get specialist cover though through some companies.
Very few insurers, including track day insurers, actually fully cover the ring.

In the 10+ years that I've been going I've only had 1 close call and that involved a blind entry/exit in a vxr Astra at 100mph and a coach. Full of school kids on a day trip. They were happily waving to me completely oblivious to the fact they could see that my eyes were on stalks and I was taking evasive action. Took to the grass, got a bit of a tank slapper and then rejoined the circuit.
Took a deep breath, knocked it down a cog and continued to push on. Lol!
Have watched it a few times now. So lucky to walk away from that.
