metal plate fallen off engine

i had a tapping noise while driving when put up on ramps found a metal plate loose and ripped my gater on my drivers drive shaft (what i only had new a month ago) does any one know what the plate is and what it is for the metal plate is circled in this picture.(this isnt my engine).

I think, its a engine hook.

that is a lifting eye. Only needed if your're removing the engine really (or hanging it up with the subframe off to remove the gearbox)

ok do u know if its important and is it ok to still drive without it on

your fine to drive without it mate, you'll need it if your ever going to take your engine out or have a clutch fitted etc, you fasten an engine hoist to it!
