Metallic tapping noise on idle

Hi,

My car suffers from the problem above, in the sense that the idle is lumpy and the car sounds like a dci. Renault have just called me to say that they think it is something called a "de-fazer pulley" and are wanting to check it out! At least they know what the problem is now, or have some idea. One more for the warranty! They also said that they would replace my timing belt at the same time, as they have to remove it to get access to this pulley - warranty once again I think, as you cannot put the old one back on again! Result! And Renault CS are paying for my shocks (again)!

not sure, but i think there are quite a few ppl who are getting tapping from behind the dash. I can hear my tapping from outside of the car now!

It's normal according to Reno - but so is every tapping noise!

Im sick of asking about this noise! seems like renault have no idea what it is! Even though people have had all sorts of replacements and repairs it just comes back! Im just learning to live with it!

Its not a pully as such its the whole phase shifter I guess.
A new cambelts a nice thing to get out of them.
