Microsoft Exchange Question

Based on this:

Received: from newdomain.ltd.uk (alias.olddomain.ltd.uk [XXX.XXX.XX.XX])

...Being in the header of emails being sent from my Exchange 2003 server after a complete domain name change, I was offered this advice:

there is still a chance that olddomain.ltd.uk will show in reference if it is in the hostname of the Exchange server, as the hostname of mailservers always shows in the headers of mail that moves through them.

I have checked the hostname by looking at

c:\program files\ExchSrv\ServerName.log

(Where ServerName is the hostname of the server)

And it doesn't say olddomain.log...

If all that makes sense, once the DNS and MX records successfully populate should:

Received: from newdomain.ltd.uk (alias.olddomain.ltd.uk [XXX.XXX.XX.XX])

...No longer happen??

If I understand what I have read when they Populate No it shouldnt. 95% sure. I am sure Pete the exhange wizard will pop up and confirm.

I've just found out... the olddomain.ltd.uk is being powered by the sodding PTR record on the reverse DNS. The IP has been allocated the name which will obviously need changing... only at this point, should everything work ok! Nightmare!

ARGGHHHHH!!! LOL. I just did a reverse DNS and ta-da there shw blows! Fudging bullshit!

Having only just scraped through the exam today (070-284 for the true geeks out there) I wouldn't go as far as saying I was a wizard!

Nah, rDNS rocks (as long as you have delegation to your own name servers).
It gets a bit crap if you have to e-mail your ISP to action changes.

Luckily, my ISP does do the delegation, so I have complete control over all of my DNS.
