Mike from MWMsport RS2 Phase 1

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
I love phase 1s, and I love the rs2 manifods, so as you can imagine I am properly loving this :D

All up and running although in desperate need of some mapping as you would expect.

Need one for my mk1 DamNed f4r lol

Would certainly give the engine bay that "wow" factor.

Sadly they are going out of production now and Stone Automotive have literally only got ONE left though.

Then its a case of secondhand is only option.

Shame cause on your aftermarket it would map up a treat with a set of lairy cams and probably see 200bhp without any drama!

Didn't realise James was stopping selling them, real shame they can't be supplied on a built to order basis.

Maybe someone will take them on if James could sell the rights on.

The problem mate is that to keep the prices at the current levels, James would have to buy quite large numbers of stock again for some of the items like the base manifolds as Jenvey charge far more for them on an individual basis, same with many of the other components.

There is FAR less profit in these than people realise TBH mate and hence if the prices go up due to James now buying in small quantities it just wouldnt be worth his while if he had to cut his margins to keep the price the same, and if the price goes up a few hundred quid he will sell even less of what is already not exactly a fast moving item as most people with clios are fairly poor, lol

True, everything boils down to costs at the end of the day, needs someone like Ktec to take them on and buy the rights as I imagine they have a little more buying power.

Shame really tbh, these seem a really good product an seem to be getting decent results. Plus if you got a ph2 you can keep things like the cruise control which is nice on long journeys.

I dont think Ktec would be interested in them at the margins that James runs at though mate, would probably have to be a couple of grand retail price even if they could get the prices down a bit before it represented the sort of profit I see them making on other items
(NOT a dig at ktec, I realise they have overheads etc, just saying them getting involved would probably put the price up not down that all)

Yeah other than ITBs its the only significant visual change you can really make to the engine's appearance and performance at once in terms of losing the hideous and ineffective standard inlet, which appeals to a lot of people whatever their motivation (ie if they are after looks or power or both), and unlike ITBS they dont have ANY compromise of the day to day functionality of the car with regards cruise control and even MPG is unaffected too.

Gutted James is going out of production on the RS2. Awesome piece of kit. But suppose my cup is one of a few with one fitted :)

At least one two of the last 3 ever made are finally going on phase 1s, one of them with forced induction.

good send off :)

FLOL

That wasnt intended as a finished picture, its just what mike sent me once it was fitted up.

It will have coolant in it by now, that pic was from before it was up and running.

Haha! New travels fast! And I can promise that the coolant was topped up and bled.

All I can say at this point is, it drives absolutely fantastically! It pulls hard all the way to 7800rpm. The low down torque is totally epic as too!

I can't wait to map it up and get it on the dyno and see what it makes.

Zmaster if you buy an RS2 i will never speak to you again.

Why would Ktec want to buy rights to it? Im pretty sure they would only be interested in products that actually produce decent gains!

I jest of course ;) Looking good slap some paint on that rocket cover though dammit!

Flol @ laine

I think its safe to say that Mike has proved with the ones he has mapped that the RS2 works very well.

I guess that the problem that certain other people have had when mapping them just goes to show that although its a great product, its not actually idiot proof ;)

Does painting the rocker cover give you epic gains then?

Have you ever driven an Rs2 powered Clio that's be properly mapped? Even unmapped I'm very very impressed with the difference.

Na man. It's just a 100k abused daily normal F4R. If you look at the standard graph from my 197 cams thread it's not even a strong one. Dyno will tell all :)

I am genuinely interested to see the outcome, is this the engine you have just freshen'ed up aswell?

Gets a bit confusing with how common these 197 cammed 172s are now, all 2 of them, lol

That was my mrs one, she rebuilt the head with supertech valves, I rebuilt the bottom end and bolted it all together with some arp studs, Mike just did the cam timing on that one.

This one is one of his own cars.
