Misfiring Clio When Cold @2.5kRPM

  Clio 172, Escort RST
If I got a pound for every thread titled misfiring I'd be a very rich man.

Anyway, My 172 is a great runner apart from one thing which this cold weather has highlighted; poor running from cold.

It runs fine and starts fine from cold. Maybe the car is a little keen on the throttle but that is it. If I am on a light to light medium throttle with the engine still cold the car misfire badly at 2.5kRPM, almost as if it has hit a rev limiter. Once past this the car is fine. Once the car's temperature gauge begins to lift off absolutely cold it is fine. Of course, during the summer it is a hit and miss affair with it being warmer.

I'm sure I checked the ECU for codes with a Snap On Solus scanner a year ago and it came back with no codes.

Here is the lowdown.

2003 172
Full FSH
Quantum Remap
New Spark Plugs
New Coolant sensor (or so a receipt says ; nowt is mentioned about fitting but I could call the specialist).
New coolant (Renault Type D); Maybe it is a coincidence with me changing the coolant during October but it does seem to take longer to warm up, albeit not by much. The level upon settling does not move.

What do you guys reckon is the culprit. I really do not want go on a spending spree of changing suspect parts if I can help it.

They all do it mate, both mine did. Your remap should of sorted it though. Having said that, never heard of Quantum so might be worth getting hold of an RS Tuner and sticking a fastchip map on. That sorted both of mine out, and many others on here.

I was hoping my remap would sort it too. The remap was done locally so I may enquire with the local company.

I am tempted to go with RS Tuner, especially with it coming with the handset but I have heard that it can lock an ECU, to the point where other readers may not be able to read it. Is this true? If so, what alternatives are out there; is Superchips viable?

It's only really an issue if you plan on doing more work in the future. If a remap is as far as you'll go, then the RSTuner is ideal.

To me it sounds like the pre-cat lambda sensor. My Clio used to idle so rough it sounded like a misfire until it started warming up and then it would change to a completely different car and idle smooth.

Normally with Eurocarparts you can get a genuine Bosch sensor for around £60.
